I'm not sure if I'm the only one with this problem but I can not link any threads from this site.

Ex. I will try to link Manga List Bug Topic thread. Using the (url=) buttons. (Not using brackets there so it doesn't mess up other things)

[url]http://https://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=452[/url]

Both the links above do not work for me. When I try to click on them I get a DNS error.
As you can see above there's an extra http:// I did not put there in the second link. Which I believe shows up in the link with text version too once I hit publish. (Or update).

I can link other things like Google perfectly fine, but it seems to be threads that I can't link ....

Am I the only one with this problem?

EDIT

[color=green]Temporary solution #1:[/color] Do not include anything before the www. in the link you are trying to link.
[url]http://mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=452[/url] (soultion 1)

mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=452 is what I paste above, it adds the http:// on it's own once you hit post.

[color=blue]Temporary solution #2:[/color] Remove the S in the https from the link.
[url]http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=452[/url] (solution 2)

I clicked on all the links in your post and had the same results as you (i.e. the first two didn't work, but Google did).

yes it doesn't work.
the reason is that there is a https:// in the address line. Some time ago there was only a www
delete it and everything woks just fine.
don't know if this is due to changes in the forum or the browser...
I use firefox.

I see. If you delete everything before the "www." Linking threads will work.
Manga List Bug Topic

But you used to be able to just select all of an address, copy, paste and it'll work. I wonder why it's adding that extra bit..

Thanks for showing me a solution Lorska until the real problem gets fixed.

Lorska the normal copy and paste doesn't work for you either? (Double checking as I was wasn't quite sure if that's what you were saying.)
If so I use Chrome so it may not be an issue with what browser you use.

The reason why it doesn't work is simple. Recently manga-updates pages get automatically redirected from http to https. HTTPS means the page is secure.

For example :
Here is the link to the serie Burning Hell :
[url]http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=32376[/url]
Notice the lack of s after http ? It means the link is initially for an unsecure page, but your browser will automatically get directed to this adress (look at your adress bar) :
https://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=32376

Now the scripts on manga-updates that manage BBCode, which permits you to add links, images, etc... to your posts were initially created with only http in mind, if you instead use https, they will freak out and the parser will add another http:// before your link rendering it useless. That's why linking from this site becomes bugged.

Solution

When creating links, replace https with http and voila... it works again perfectly !

Of course this should only be a temporary solution, I guess the site developers need to update the BBCode scripts to their latest iterations or manually edit them.

I see. Thanks for explaining what the problem is, and also that I'm not the only one with this issue. (Well me, Lorska, and may2fritz)

*Maybe this thread should be bumped every once in a while until the problem gets fixed. I'll edit the OP to include both the temporary solutions. *

Going to bump this since it's been a week, and I just saw a post that gave a DNS error from the link. (Seeing as the problem is still here... Read the OP for temporary solutions.)

And what is the point of continually bumping this?...

Oh, sorry I thought by bumping this thread it would help others that haven't seen it know there's a problem, and a way around it. (awareness I guess)
I don't think people generally look in the Suggestions & Bugs section of the forums often.

(Also to prevent others from making new threads about this matter.)

May I occasionally bump this? (Maybe once it gets off the 1st page in the Suggestions & bugs section. Again to let others know of these temp. solutions.)
Or no more bumping?

Edit
Okay. Lambchopsil

No more unless you have something useful to add
