k i know the title doesnt make much sense, but honestly it really seems that way to me XD
there are many situations that really remind me of a smut-scene setup, yet are always purposefully cut short and still kept as a regular shoujo-romance genre.
anyways im just asking for your opinions and whatnot 🙂

uhh... i dont think you guys quite understand what i was talking about, cause im not talking about plots, or the actual makeout scenes, just that sometimes the author seems to suggest a possible smut scene, but obviously doesnt have one

Maybe it just seems that way because the guy always tries to assert his dominance over the girl and the girl sometimes seems submissive.
That kind of relationship is what smut usually portrays.

Still I don't consider it smut for the same reasons already mentioned.

I don't consider it smut because it's not like Misaki is weak or anything + Usui isn't a jerk (like in most smutty manga, where the male lead is a total jerk but has a nice side and all that). but that's beside the point, Misaki isn't submissive (like other shoujo leads)...so no...?

like using the same "storytelling techniques" or something?

I somewhat see what you mean in some of the scenes where Usuis personality changes and we see the "real" him i guess, and Misaki turns shy or whatnot and can't do anything. But as people has mentioned, he is never a total jerk towards Misaki, which is one of the many key elements missing to give it similarities with smut.

I do wish it was smut, it would make things more interesting.

It's not smut at all. It doesn't even have any inappropriate things mentioned, really. I see what you mean though, but mainly just because Usui is assertive.

lol im kinda surprised at some of the comments this board has been getting, it seems that most people commenting here haven't read much smut other than the shoujo-school life variety so i can see where the definitions of "smut" differ.
but overall i dont mean the "jerkfaced horny guy X weakminded pushover girl" couples with those "love at first rape" kinda smuts, but more along the lines of just Usui being assertive and scenes similar to Misaki sponge-bathing Usui's half-naked body alone in a dark apartment where you get the feeling that something might actually end up happening kind of thing (which, for me, triggered this idea)
