could anybody imagine black and white anime? Is there any around?

I know Kare Kano does this. During the last episode (#26), there is the look of manga images that are just a tiny bit animated and that episode is almost entirely gray scale, and #16 is mostly gray scale too. And they use a cel that's like a line drawing occasionally, such as episode 21, when it's a more dramatic or emotional moment. And there might be a chance that anime with flashback scenes will go to black and white. I think I heard Gainax got into trouble for fraud or something after Kare Kano got cancelled. Episode 19 is worth checking out for the "different" animation method used in it. xD

Black and white anime would proabably make your eyes bleed after 10 minutes, only high contrast 🙂

Wow, all the spacing before that paragrah got lost. 😕 (It can only been seen in the reply text.) The funny thing is, as you can see from my quote, you were just asking for that type of anime a few hours ago according to the post times. 😉

I sort of wish this topic had a poll though, as another user suggested. I like colour ones, but I guess it requires more work to look/read. But with the way manga is made with screentones that give a dreamy feeling, it covers more feelings/emotions than a person looking like she's on cloud #9 with her hands rested in next to her chin and hearts in her eyes (that would be head-over-heels-in-love). But cinemanga is fun to look at, although it's cheaper and there is probably more story in a regular manga volume, and it doesn't seem that you're reading screencapped anime. (The funny thing is, it requires more work to read than watch.) 🤣

But regarding otakubaybay's comments, I think mangaka like to screw around with the colour of character's hair in manga, and shoujo mangaka may be more likely to do this since they are covering lighter topics so they can be more flamboyant since they tend not to have the deadly-serious guy that wears a full-black suit dying his hair a light sky blue or a bright purple. I think Watase Yuu changes Miaka's hair colour in her artwork, and it's more to catch your eye like magazine covers and things that will be put into an artbook.

Well it would give the anime the whole "sin city feel" so i guess it'd be awesome.

I don't mind b&w but color rocks (oh those volume covers from blade of the immortal)
I've read sandman and it's most definitely worth a try. The story is original and even though the drawings are a bit weird in the end you'll feel satisfied, specially if u got them for free 😛

Not real sure, but isn't things like Speed Racer and Astro Boy anime and in B&W?

I prefer B&W accented with some color pages. I think color pages all depend on how its colored/quality. I really liked the few colored pages amongst B&W in Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou.

Most mangaka aren't all that good with color (from what I've seen). So it really doesn't add much, and it'd probably make the manga cost more. Sounds like it'd be a waste of time to me.

Hayate the Comat Butler on the other hand, those color pages/covers are so good I'd remove some limbs to see the rest of the pages colored.
Do you think I'm kidding? 😐

hehe black and white you can imagine colors!! xDD like this guy have white hair but you can imagine him with light pink hair!!!! lol. But if want colors there are something call "anime".. lol Some mangas start with colors which is pretty but every single pages with colors are...erm... not my type, plus the mangaka might do the work slow.. (MIGHT)..

I saw this oneshot with color completely before, not to mention Doraemon Color version is cool too... pretty colors and everthing +_+ but i got bore right away as to occur.. "uncomfortable" hehe.

Colours rape it. T-T Colours in comics are something so from the western world.
It should be black like in Asian calligraphy! ^_^

I've always preferred black and white because it loaded quicker. I normally read manga off of online viewers.

Anime should be in color though, because it's TV, and moving black and white things confuse me.

I know Kare Kano does this...[-snip-]

Oh, and the first version of Astro Boy in the 1960s. I don't know if there was any other anime made back then though. I would they that those series would be black and white too.

Monkey Bump~ (=O*-*)=O

Ohh weird, I just remembered this was the biggest issue I had with manga. O_O I never wanted to start reading manga because it had no color it was all black and white, seemed so dull. My thoughts were somewhere along the lines of: "How can I distinguish this angle from that one with no color?"... "Fighting scenes seem so boring!"...etc.

But after trying it for a few times I barely notice the color. It's more like I color the images in my mind, which is even easier to do when the manga has an anime adaptation. O_O

But yeah, I prefer black and white. XD

Black and white~ Color pages aren't that bad, but I think it feels out of place when you get used to black and white òÖ.

Clean and crisp, well-drawn black and white pages are such an eyegasm.

I don't mind color, but not the whole chapter/series.
