I like reading manga with ordinary people doing ordinary things. People with the worst. low-paying jobs in the world, just barely scraping by. For instance, just about any character TATSUMI Yoshihiro has ever made.
I.E., the realistic characters. Not Shonen heroes or Shojo hapless girls.

Tough poll.

However, I chose the beautiful unattainable idols. Most of those are really uninteresting, boring characters, but it can turn so great when done well (let's say... Nishino from Ichigo 100 ~<3 ).

And, Zedman has a point, beauty is a pleasant thing 😮

tomboys, the closest to gender bender 🙂

Other than those I like the childhood friend option. Adachi mangas play on that heavily and I have yet to read one of his mangas I didn't like. 🙂

One thing I really enjoy in manga (when I can find it) is just a well-developed friendship between characters. Romance is nice, but it's the main focus of so many shoujo manga I read. So I love it when a series expands the focus to friends of the protagonist—and not just as rivals or popping up to offer random support, but as characters in their own right. I'm thinking of Kare Kano and I Hate You More Than Anyone as examples of friendship in manga. Honey and Clover is great for this reason, too.

Brotherly/sisterly is similar to this too... but I couldn't choose one over the other. So I voted "other."

Other -> drop dead gorgeous with attitude (byronics - mad, bad, and dangerous to know).

(Generally, I'll go with the plot than the characters alone).

Personally my favourite is the powerful male rebel, whether he had a cause or not. The darker his nature the better so he always hovers in the morally grey, like Light from Death Note, Lelouch from Code Geass and Kazuma from Kaze no stigma etc. I like your geniune good guy rebels as well like Kai from E's and Setsuna from Angel Sanctuary and Ed from FMA. But it's always those who oppose I end up rooting for, lol.

For me I enjoy various type of manga so it just depends on the character and storyline. And when the character in the manga is cool and a little bit of an egoist,I'll be dying to read it more.Haha~

Romance is nice too but sometimes i can't stand "too romance" cause the storyline is too easy to figure out >.<

I always love to see Childhood friends in manga because I never able to have childhood friends since my family moved several time when I was little. Depending on what kind of stories they are. I always want the childhood friends to become couple in the end. But if the childhood friend are not in the main picture at the beginning, then I wouldn't want the childhood friends to come in the middle and create more drama. I just want the childhood friend to remain good friend.

Another type I like to see is the Tomboy. I see feminine girls in manga all the time. Sometimes I'm tired to see another cutesy, short skirt, blushing easily girl appears. If I see a Tomboy somewhere who is only a secondary character, I wish so much that she is the main character. Come on be Tough!!!!! Take a bat and hit them on the head man!!!! Don't sit there feeling sorry for yourself. Anyone knows Taehee from Vanilla Ice? That's my ideal Tomboy. Not that she has to be that tall and that handsome. I like her confidence.
