I stick with GIMP as well... It has some nice features and works pretty well (okay, I haven't used any other program to compare ehehe)
Furthermore I'm still so bad that it would be a waste to get a professional editing program. GIMP's okay for practicing...
There's nothing to see here. Proceed with what you were doing or throw rainbows at random pedestrians.

7 years to master is laughable. XD At least if all you do is draw or scanlate in it.
Exactly, but if you want to work professionally with photoshop (and the other cs programs), then it could easily take seven years (though also a couple of years less 😛 ). 😃
I use Photoshop CS5. I got it so I could clean manga better, because before that I used GIMP and it was really troublesome trying to clean manga in that programme.
I even used Paint Shop Pro 7 for a long long time too, before I knew about torrents and stuff. I had Photoshop 6 and CS2, but CS2 crashed my computer nicely (because it was shit), so I went back to PSP 7 before I got my mac.
I've always preferred Photoshop out of all of them.

I've been using MS Paint forever... I like how simple and logical it is. It can get the job done for me the majority of the time, but sometimes I do wish it had some extra features. But Photoshop looks so complex that I feel like learning to use it will be this huge, labor-intensive project, so I just haven't bothered... also, most editing I do is really simple and MS Paint is good enough.
Oh, but the laptop I bought a few years ago came with this thing called "MS Office Picture Manager" which lets me crop an image from any side, resize images more easily, and adjust brightness and contrast and colors... so recently I've been using that too.

Paint.Net is a pretty good alternative lynira.

Photoshop 7.0; it's seriously ancient, but it does the trick. I have also used MS Paint and Gimp (Ah, nostalgia), though. Photoshop is the most easy to handle, especially because of the text capabilities that Gimp doesn't have.

It took a little while to get used to things, but I like it! I use this too now. Thanks for the recommendation!

Once you learn how to level the image, it will be your friend.
ctrl+l
ctrl+r
is nice for reducing image sizes to a height of 350 or width of 300 for series pages...
Oh, and the layers are helpful as well.
It creates a new "layer" that is empty; so, you can add what you want on it but can easily remove it if need be.
