For those of you already out of High-School...

Senior in university, and yeah, I do. Then again, I still read shounen manga where the main characters are in middle school, so... yeah. As long as there's something engaging about the characters or the plot, I don't really care where it's set.

The HS setting does get old sometimes, but then it's 99% different than the HS I attended so it still seems a lot like some "fantasy land" or another. 🤣

LMAO!!! Best comment!
Well, I usually avoid all manga that has such settings.
There's typically two things that can be fit into HS
and they are:
a) A cheesy teen romance.
b) Ion-shooting spellsword kids.
And I don't want either.

The only time it bothers me is when I wish the hot bishie was my age or older (early 20s) so it's not quite as bad for me to be a little too fond of him.
I tend to avoid stories with child leads and favour those with older teens and above but since I prefer supernatural/fantasy stories the age isn't really a big thing for me and if the plot is good I will tolerate any setting.
The pen is mightier than the sword...and considerably easier to write with.

Not bothered by it, really. I actually tend to read more manga that has younger characters. There are just fewer manga with an interesting story line (at least what I like) with older characters with careers. I agree with TofuQueen. It is rather like reading about a fantasy land. My high school experience was not like any manga I've ever read, at all. Fantasy is fun.

I have to agree with TofuQueen, my high school was nothing like the high schools in most mangas, so it really is fantasy land . But over time my taste in manga has changed, example when I was in high school I used to think that Hot Gimmick was one of the best mangas ever (it came out in the US when I was a sophomore), but I just don't find the whole idea of it that interesting anymore. I've found myself more interested in seinen and josei, like Vagabond, Kimi Wa Petto (aka Tramps Like Us) and Hapi Mari.
But there are some HS mangas I still really enjoy like Hana Kimi. I'm also not has interested anymore in the cheesy romances. But I still read mangas with a high school setting, I'm just a lot more picky then I used to be.
Oh by the way I'm 22 and this is my second year in college. (I had to take a couple of year off) ^_^

I am waaay out of high school, but stories set in high schools don't both me. I do get a bit more excited when a manga is geared more at my age group though ^_^; And I never liked high school romance stories even when I was in high school, so I avoid those like the plague. Those are the only stories set in high schools that I don't like.

Thank goodness the characters look older than the 14-16 they typically are, or I'd really feel like a pedophile. Though usually I go for the older characters instead of the main characters, like Shigure and Hatori instead of Yuki or Kyo; Ryuuken Ishida and Byakuya instead of Ichigo.
As others have said, if it's a good story, I don't mind the high school setting. I just wish there were more stories with older characters; for example set in a workplace instead of school, such as those of YOSHIHARA Yuki or OHMI Tomu. Maybe that's one reason (besides the hot guys) why I read so much yaoi, because those seem to have older characters out of high school.

When I do read a manga and as it usually is, its set in a high school, I always wonder why the story always ends at high school. Take Azumana Diaoh for example, sure it was a 4 panel strip series but it I don't see why it had to stop at their graduation. Beck managed to cover roughly six or seven years of the main characters life starting in middle school. It broke the high school barrier and was better for it.
I guess mangaka that write stories in high school settings and their fans that read them don't want their creations implied or imagined innocence stripped away by them leaving school to become adults. Thanks otaku. 😐
Ofcourse, saying all that doesn't mean I won't enjoy the story unitl its forced to end there.
Sarcasm just doesn't work over the internet.

It doesn't bother me too much considering I was never in such a structured school environment for high school so I can't relate to it as much. If the characters aren't drawn too young looking I can still relate to it. I don't find that the high school/school motif irks me too much.
