Do you read raw manga, even if you can't read Japanese?

Well I wouldn't call it reading but yes I have looked at raws because I became impatient. In those cases it was because the scanlators put those projects on hold for months.

I do it when a series that's being scanlated goes on hold, if I like it enough. Case in point, Seikon no Qwaser. Nobody seems to want to work on it.
Has to be said that 'reading' the raws just confused the hell out of me.

At times. Not really much 'reading', though. I own tanks due to living around two Kinokuniyas.... >o< They tempt me to buy them!

Yes, but only if it's yaoi. And I mean the hard kind. 🤣

Yes of course! I can't imagine anyone not doing it - especially when it comes to shoujo. I'm reading about 50+ different shoujos and only 5 or so of them are updated on a regular basis. Even some of the completed projects have weeks of waiting in between if any scanlations forthcoming at all.

No, why should I read something when I cannot understand a single thing?
The plot IS important to some...
(makes sense for hentai, though. words are bothersome here)

Yes...sort of, I have a low level knowledge of Japanese (mastered hiragana and katakana, but only know a few hundred kanji, have only been studying Japanese for 2 weeks.) So I generally stick to manga with primarily hiragana/katakana so I can get the gist of the story. (Generally I understand about half of what I read.)
yea, only if I'm really desperate or there hasn't been a new release for years

I hear you say "Why?" Always "Why?" You see things; and you say "Why?" But I dream things that never were; and I say "Why not?"

I just wanted to clarify that I don't in actuality read them, I just skim. For instance, I've only just started reading Clover and it's 24 volumes long. Scanlations are currently on volume 4! I'll be old and grey by the time anyone gets to completely scanlating the series if at all. If there are raws are out there, I'm finding them.

I was surprised at how many people that actually said that they did, I would never look at a manga that I can't read, it sort of seems pointless.
You can make out what's happening in the panels but makes it feel like a waste of time imo.

Can't read japanese, but there are other raws that aren't japanese and those I can read.
Most of the scanlations are kind of off in their translations, and if their wording is really weird then I'll just go back to the raws.
Though sometimes I will take a look at the japanese raws since even if I can't "read" it I can still understand the content. It's manga, the drawing should be doing most of the "talking" anyways...
So glad I know more languages than just english... 😐

Yes, but only if there's a cliffhanger at the end of
the current scanlations, and I have to know more.
Although, I only do this rarely if I have absolutely
nothing else to read...

I read raw manga of some series.
Battle manga are the easiest to read in japanese since you can generally figure out the plot is gonna be good guy must defeat the villain.
romance can be hard to figure out from just pictures but it's not impossible
