AVG Anti-virus Free.
XD
I had Avast on my dad's computer though.Whoa, Norton's winning. Wtf?! O__O
Its winning because it comes preloaded on every computer that comes preloaded with Windows. And most people don't realize how crappy it is so they don't bother removing it and replacing it with something better. Hooray stupid computer users.
Ah, I see.
Those 12 people using Norton, I have no sympathy for you guys. 😛
🤣 "For Norton users only" Don't click here if you're not!
Activate it using my keys Keys, Extract them with this
I had to do this 😔
I mostly use Linux/BSD, so I don't see the need for an antivirus application. (at least for now)
Same here. Just install Ubuntu or Debian and you don't have to worry about viruses anymore.
We've all heard it many times when a new Microsoft virus comes out. In fact, I've heard it a couple of times this week already. Someone on a mailing list or discussion forum complains about the latest in a long line of Microsoft email viruses or worms and recommends others consider Mac OS X or Linux as a somewhat safer computing platform. In response, another person named, oh, let's call him "Bill," says, basically, "How ridiculous! The only reason Microsoft software is the target of so many viruses is because it is so widely used! Why, if Linux or Mac OS X was as popular as Windows, there would be just as many viruses written for those platforms!"
so yes, Linux/Mac ect... are safer and don't get as many viruses as Windows... Yet...
the real kicker is that the viruses out there that are specific to macs are so malicious that many effectively destroy the computer making them unusable.the only linux based malware I've heard of are some nasty rootkits.
just what I've heard.
@Nel
The idea that virus makers don't concentrate on Linux just because it's not as mainstream as Windows is mostly a misconception. (Linux is a big player in the server world, FYI)
Example (simplified) : On Linux, for an ELF binary file to get infected by a virus, it has to first get write access to other binaries (and it must somehow disguise itself prior to that). The open source nature of Linux and other similar ecosystems means that the entire community has access to the source code, which in turn means that the virus could maybe hide for a day or two before one of the many (millions, maybe) contributors/developers discovers what's it's hiding and planning to do... and then the element of surprise (what a virus needs) will be gone. Malicious code would probably have better luck trying to hide itself in plain text.
I'm not saying that Linux is 100% secure (nothing is), it's just that it's a much harsher environment for a virus to thrive and multiply itself compared to Windows.... so I'm betting that even if Linux had, say a 30% market share on the desktop, there still wouldn't be as many viruses out there compared to Windows, and even less that could really cause harm at the root/administrative level.
@Silent Killer
You're mostly right.
Apple claims to have killed the problem with their security updates, but seeing as they don't even tell their customers what is even being included in this so called updates, I wouldn't really trust them (never trust a man in a turtleneck, I say)
As for the rootkits on Linux, most have died thanks to incremental kernel updates over the years... and nearly every distro out there includes a rootkit checker in their respective repositories that you can download and use.
There are a couple of Open Office related cross platform type malware that could potentially affect a Linux system, but most users are fine as long as they aren't running from root. (Linux systems that make use of chroot environments won't even need to blink in this case.)

Avast.
No idea which version...
It used to scare the hell out of me when it updated.
Hrodulf and Bjornolfr, you will not be forgotten.

For those people using norton, I pity you
Currently using Avast home edition, although I did use AVG free for a while. AVG lacked real-time protection though and got a virus that killed my computer, had to reinstall the os. 🤢 I've learned my lesson and is dual booting Linux just in case.
Anyone know a good firewall? Zonealarm kills utorrent 😔

Comodo kicks ass. It fairly simple to configure as opposed to zonealarm. I used zonealarm pro and that thing was a right pain in the ass. I'm glad I got it for free, and no it wasn't a cracked version. They were giving away free activation keys awhile ago.

I use Kaspersky Internet Security and I'm pretty happy with it, except when it scans my laptop, it can be very thorough but slow.

AVG for my anti-virus and spybot for spywares, etc. So far, so good 🙂 Not much to complain since I don't see any reasons that I'll get random viruses anyway 🤣

None, it's just too bothersome to use and since I don't use windows the threat of some badware to accidentally sneak into my computer without me noticing isn't very high.

In the past, I use McAfee and Norton, but now I use Avast! Home Edition. Avast takes out the viruses I have in my computer very well.
I read so much mangas, I'm too lazy to watch anime! 😛 😛 😛
Manga I'm loving ATM: Heart no Kuni no Alice
Why is there no option for "none"?
I'm the only person that uses this computer, so my dad can't be bothered to get antivirus software. He really should though. I have a horrible feeling my computer is packed full of Trojans and Virus' 🤣
Although now I have this software that scans stuff I download for virus'. No idea what it is 🤣

I do have Spybot's TeaTimer on to
keep an eye on the registries
and javascript is off.
I don't sport sites or
DL files that much.
My pages are pretty
much limited to this
and wikipedia.
Haven't been hit by a virus
for what 9 years. There we go you just reminded me I forgot to put "None" in the poll options, I just guessed everyone had an antivirus 😮
That's why there's no option for "none"

Linux is fringe OS?? come again
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_operating_systems
is desktop computers at least it's share is small but it's growing fast and it's eating from M$ share
and that small percentage if you take in account the number of computers in the world is Huge and consider the number of Web servers running Linux (60%~70%)
then come again ^^
