I've got McAfee Security Center since it was the only choice offered by Dell when I got my computer. I have no complaints about it but my 2yr subscription is about to expire and I don't know if I'll be able to afford to renew it. If I can't I'll probably switch to Avast though removing McAfee will be a huge pain in the a**.

[quote=Dragonfiremule]Avast! home Is what I'm using. It works really well, and if you don't feel bad about no spending money and ripping people off on such things, they have a 30 day free trial on the website which you can download, and then when it expires all you have to do is uninstall it and then download it again.

I use avast home edition you get thirty days to register but if you go ahead and register before the thirty days are up you don't have to register again for a year its free, to so there would be no reason to download it contentiously unless you can't go and register it. i used every kind of anti virus before and found this one to the best at least for me it is. trend 2006-2008 was the worst thing i ever encountered the fire wall was my worst nightmare i couldn't play a game there wasn't much i could do actually because it took total control of my computer. and the 06 one made me have to set my computer back to factory defaults i had so many freaking virus infections you think i'd have learned from that one but i had to try 08 version, i only used for a few hours and then took it back to the store the next day.

I used Nod32 for few years but last two years.....it's kinda....eww 🤢 . Virus database is poor, etc. I switched to kaspersky but it was slowing down my comp(it was kinda slow comp to begin with, but when i installed K. it was ARRRRRRRRRRG). Then i tried McAfee(came with new computer), Avast, Panda (srsly lol), and end up with Norton. But I'm still using Malwarebites, Spybot, CCleaner and internet check-ups just to feel more safe. 😀 But who knows maybe I'll switch to AVG in near future(just because i haven't tried it yet) 😛

My computer came with Norton Antivirus, but I don't use it.

I pretty much rely on Windows Defender, and I just downloaded Anti-malwarebytes antimalware (so far, apparently there's 36 infections D: ) because Microsoft Security Essentials Alert (which is fake) was driving me nuts.

I use Avast! Home Edition, with Malwarebytes as a manual back-up scanner and Combofix for cleaning up.

For me, Avast is the front line that takes care of the viruses before they start doing damage, but I discovered that Avast couldn't be perfect when the damned "fake antivirus scanner" malware took control of my PC. Malwarebytes when the PC is in safe mode with networking takes care of the virues if and when Avast is compromised (although I'd have to manually update it first), and then I'd have to download, install and run ComboFix to clean up the damage (note: Combofix is extremely powerful. Do not use without supervision - see tech forums on the net). The standard Windows Firewall works for me.

No single scanner out there is perfect, especially when they're free. I find it best to use a combination that covers different aspects of antivirus protection.

And stay away from Norton/Symantec. They. Are. Stupid. They hog your RAM constantly, and slow all aspects your computer down by a factor of 10. Not good for efficiency. I'm absolutely glad I changed scanners, because start up time dropped from 5 minutes to 30 seconds as a result.
