Yeah, love Lucy. I also love that she has a soft side too. I think that makes her more real.
Glados is a bitch. She made me kill the companion cube, the only friend I'll ever have. 😢

I'd have to say a mix between personality and ability...
If a man can destroy a city with a snap of a finger, people will respect him, but they wouldn't put their face as their avatar. 🤣 The personality is what helps someone to connect with the fictional character thats nothing more than ideas translated into ink.
Of course if someone has a good personality but gets kicked around alot... then people tend to dislike them because they see him/her as character that's all talk (PERFECT example = Naruto)
But If a character has both, or at least enough ability to hold his own against enemies, then you have an epic character. So I'd have to say that Personality outweighs ability a little, but a good mixture of both is a walk way to perfection.
Then again, I'm only talking from an Action Manga perspective.

Gutts and Griffith are perfect examples to what you're saying.

If you like epic characters you'll love Griffith. Pretty sad what happens to him when Gutts leaves the and of the Hawk, though.

Eh you only think its long, but then you start wishing it was longer 🙁 but that aside I would say Griffith is beyond epic, Guts is well maybe he could sort of possible have a slight chance of being mildly associated with something epic. Least, in comparison to Griffith (ya ya, guts is still epic)

I was thinking about reading Berserk, all this talk is really making me want to... Time to download!
About an epic character I think it is all in the personality and the actions to back it up 😎

Epic is not defined by ass-kicking ability. If you actually look at people throughout history who are considered epic, you'll see how epic Griffith is.

The meaning of the word epic varies in accordance with the context, but generally it confers larger-than-life status on an event, object, deed, entity, or some sequence of these things. A character could be epic through force of personality or through great accomplishments, although usually only characters with forceful personalities perform epic accomplishments. It is worth noting; it is probably impossible to find a truly epic character outside an epic work of fiction. Epic characters need expansive, broad worlds in order to function ... epically.
