I sometimes prefer yaoi over yuri and sometimes prefer yuri over yaoi, it all depends on my mood. 🙂

I don't know if there is enough truly good yuri out there; the market seems much smaller than yaoi, so it is hard to compare. The best I've read come closer to shoujo-ai or very light yuri, and only oneshots seem to contain real smut. Other than in anime, of course.
So yaoi, by personal preference and the much larger selection of series/plots/artwork.

To be frank, both are fine by me. I'm much more interested in the story content anyways.
However, I think that majority of "yuri" or "shoujo-ai" stories are screwed over by the "short story" formats. As a result, what you get are stereotypical stuff bent on rehashing the same old storyline 'cos the limited pages really cramp the creator's writing abilities.
Granted, I haven't read that many non-ecchi yuri/shoujo-ai but apart from stuff like Gunjou and some of the better series Lililicious and a few other groups have done, I find it really hard to take much of that genre/demographic seriously.
Or maybe, it's what's been scanlated? Oh well.

i also watch some yuri and shoujo ai animes... i esp. like strawberry panic and maria sama ga miteru... i've also read haru yo koi.. 😀
i really dont think that girls who like yuri stuff are lesbian or bi's... 'coz i'm a girl and i know that i'm not a lesbian... 🙂
