And my parents are more like the opposite of your mom regarding the "what-are-you-going-with-your-life" thing; I haven't even started writing my bachelor's thesis yet, and my dad's already pushing me to get a PhD.

Today I learned that homework assignments can be really annoying, and that my mom can be a very scary person.

Is that such a bad thing? Well I guess that depends on your dream - one of my biggest dreams is to learn to fly a helicopter, not professionally but just for recreational flying. I'd call that a hobby.

I was talking about a whole different type of dreams - specifically, the college I want to go to, or rather, the college I'm dying to go to, and where I probably won't be selected. It doesn't matter in the long run, as my chances of selection aren't that good, but it still hurts, as I'm hoping against hope anyway 😛

I was lucky enough to find a dream, but before that I was doing the same thing. The chances are worse now, but I feel happier somehow 🙂

This is clearly a problem of your mom not knowing the definition of a hobby, then. Which means you really shouldn't care.

While I appreciate your sentiments, I'll ask to not say that. The exact word my mother used is 'Shauk', which is a Hindi word, and has a somewhat different meaning from hobby. I chose hobby as it is very close to the original meaning. She is just being cautious, as I have done similar things many times when I was younger. I can understand where she is coming from, and appreciate her helping me even when she thinks like this 🙂 .
