Currently learning it for the first time in two after-school classes every week. I've learnt off most of the Hiragana, still struggling with Kanji though. I don't have a knack for memorising things like that...

I have to say currently learning, because we have to study chinese and japanese and english at my school. It's so frustrating.. Need to learn hangul, chinese characters, katakana, hiragana and western alphabets.
Why can't I just study english and korean, because government says so.
Don't like it, but maybe I need them someday... Hope so because I don't wanna work for nothing. 😐

i was lucky enough to have it offered in my high school, and I've now completed about 5 years of formal study (3 yrs HS and 2yrs college).

it gets on my nerves when japanese is randomly thrown into fanfics. i have seen a few fics where it is used well or it makes sense to have a certain character use japanese, but for god's sake, at least make sure your japanese is correct if you are going to use it.

for anyone who is thinking of studying japanese, be aware that it IS a very difficult language. however, it is extremely interesting and fascinating as a language and you'll have a lot of fun learning it!

Suffice for me to know English and French, I have no interest in Japanese. I would try Spanish though.

It's on my list of languages to learn. Already know French quite well, working on Korean.

Don't speak it, probably will never learn it. I've decided to get my Chinese and French down first. And since there are many similarities between Chinese and Japanese and English, I'll be able to read and understand kanji once that's all through.

too bad that kanji won't get me too far through manga.

Polite bump.

No, I don't speak Japanese. Though thanks to years of anime watching, I have memorized a couple of words, and can at least read the tone of the plot even without subtitles.

Hmm, I'd like to know Japanese, but it isn't really one of my priorities. It'd be interesting to know it though. Along with Korean.
