I don't speak Japanese, nor do I have any interest in learning how. I watch fansubs, but I think that just liking anime is a stupid reason to want to learn Japanese. I also think that's its disrespectful to the culture to go around saying kawaii and baka all that acting like you know Japanese just because you watched some anime.
On a happier note, I would like to learn to speak Cantonese. My family is Chinese on my father's side and it would be nice to be able to speak to my uncles/aunts in the language they grew up speaking. I also believe it's an important part of my heritage.
I used to want to learn how...but not anymore. Too much hard work. 🤣 If I am not lazy anymore, then yeah, one day, maybe. But for now, no.

I did study Japanese before going to Japan and while I was there. That was years ago and I have forgotten nearly all of it (not that I knew much to begin with). I don't have much use for it now so I won't be picking it up again anytime soon.

😮 I'm "learning it now," I guess...
Though I only know how to read hiragana slowly... I know, it's sad... On top of that, I only know words and phrases I picked up from reading manga and watching anime.
I don't intend on learning it anymore. I'm content with being able to read hiragana, and plus I only use it when I don't want people to know what I'm writing. 😛 . I write in japanese but the words are actually in tagalog. 😃
Here in America, it's more beneficial to learn Spanish. But both Japanese and Spanish are offered in the high school I'm applying to. I'd rather learn Japanese but Spanish is like a "top priority" since so many people speak it. 😢

It was offered in my high school, and I failed at Spanish in middle school, so I switched.
I live in a place with a high Chinese/Korean/Japanese population, and growing up I had a lot of friends who spoke mostly Japanese, so its not useless to me. Although I can understand it being useless almost everywhere else.
I plan on trying Spanish again when I finish, and then either Italian or Chinese.
My one rule for those who must say kawaii/baka etc: just pronounce it correctly, especially those who've been learning it a couple years already. You should know how silly you sound.
Doing nothing is very hard to do. You never know when you're done.

I learning it now. It can take lots of work to learn the language, but in the end it can be well worth it. 🙂
I read so much mangas, I'm too lazy to watch anime! 😛 😛 😛

I'm learning but i'm not still quite new to it lol . I can't speak well but I can read hiragana and katakana. I know some kanji because i took cantonese and mandarin before but the meaning is different sometimes and the pronunciation is VERY different. It's interesting how i've learned a lot from manga and anime XD.

I speak some. I've studied it and am still studying. My best friend is from Japan (her parents are japanese, so is she, but they moved from there when she was a child) so I guess that made me get into this thing.
I'll hug your problems away.

I can speak it a little. I learned hiragana and katakana long ago, when I knew hardly any Japanese (like, fewer than ten words); this was the easiest part. Now, I've taken two courses in Japanese at my university, and I can carry on a simple (very simple) conversation, and I know about a hundred or so kanji. I intend to continue with Japanese 3 and 4 this coming summer. I'm considering minoring in Japanese, and I might (this is a huge maybe) study or work abroad in Japan at some point.
As a side note, I can do a tiny bit of translation (while using popjisyo.com and google translate as crutches, that is)... I've translated a few manga descriptions for the database here, like these: A B C D E F G H I J K L M N. Some I could only do part, and the rest was too difficult, like this one and this one. You can read them and then tell me how much I suck, if you like. 🤣

Definitely. It's really quite disturbing to hear the "Baka baka kawaii nekochan desu!" and the "Oh my kami! Are you like, from Japan desu!?" (making sure to mispronounce at least a few words, too) nonsense that some people spout out. (Yet another reason to never go to cons.)

Watch anime for a while and you'll pick up a few things.
This.
I think I know more Chinese than Japanese, though, simply from watching Ni Hao Kai-Land with my 3 year old little brother and 6 year old little sister.

learning it now, I'm starting to read raw manga, although I still read scans because I'm not very good at kanji yet
