Well most dont want something like "Almost" they want something "Permanent" as most people, me included, have always preferred Yuki. Infact, if you do a poll right now, I bet it will be Yuki's overwhelming victory as seen in other forums. Shou doesnt even compare

an equally normal cliché is protagonist2 help protagonist to get the girl/guy the person wants, it doesn't work out, a lot of anxiety, protagonist starts liking and confesses to protagonist2 who turns the moron down, more anxiety and then they suddendly realize they're made for one another, happy ending. 🙄

Well yea cliches here and there but to me it seems like it follows the trend of
Random girl helps the guy out in getting the girl
he almost gets her but is then dumped or she goes to her first love
he is comforted by the new girl and starts to feel
the first love girl will probably get seperated/ or realizes something thus making her possibly jump back

then resumes the love triangle possibly yuki in this case if the helper comforter one of the perfect examples of this cliche this relation build up is toradora
taiga helps i forgot his name its been awhile~~ get the other girl but he fails too and starts to like taiga and so on and so forth
if i phrased it wrongly my bad it was something similar to this

That was just an example, sort off. I agree with you that Yuki is not a side character. But she's not the "first love protaganist". In some cases the final relationship is with the First love of the Protaganist.

The only example I can think of where the first love happened to be the last in a shounen is

Ichigo 100%.

as far as clichés go I'd say there are many possible outcomes

what does put me off from thinking Utsumi would end up with Yuki though is that she feels too nuanced, too complex for him to handle. . . maybe I'm wrong though, hope so anyway 😃

jus caught up to the newest chapter...at first i wasnt gonna read and jus put it on my wishlist but after reading the spoilers and other ppls opinion of it, i thought to give it a try and im hooked lol. since the first chapter, i decided to root for Yuki...thts how i always do...anyways imo u cant really be mad at Shou or blame her, cuz if u liked some1 for so long and they finally looked at u, u would be in lala land too u kno wat i mean. and i happy tht utsumi(idk) understood tht...ps i think he shouldnt jus start likin Yuki or ask her out...imo they should stay friends for awhile until he understands most everything about her and maybe than ask her out....because it looks like wat she went through is one of the worst, if not the worst thing some1 would go through. but this is jus me...anyways i cant wait for more....thx everyone, cuz of u guyz i read this and now i am enjoying it. 😀

I started reading it because it had a weird name. I found the story a lot more interesting than most shounen romance. I really don't care for the cliches since I hardly matters if I actually enjoy the story ^^

Yeah the sempai was a bitch, the guy turn her down for slag and then come back crying to her when he was at a all time low. I hate people who have to reserve someone as their backup, trying to have the best of both worlds is pretty selfish don't you think.

Rooting for Yuki but either way I'm not gona complain about what happens, just as long as its not utterly retarded I suppose.

P.S. It would be a bit annoying if that guy at the end of Chapter 15 was her boyfriend, most likely a relative... hopefully.

your right about it doesnt matter who he ends up with as long as its enjoyable but for me and probably many others similar as you read you gain familiarity with the characters

And once you do you start to think he would of been better off doing this or that even though its at the authors will D:
its the feeling you get when you watch a movie indepthly or read with a passionate you start to fall into the character's shoes and follow the lines

Well that was somewhat off topic but however yes its being a hypocrite but sempai was pretty wrong even though is ustumi goes for yuki it would create a similar atmosphere? one way to put it i guess.
However if you want to resemble it how sempai went for the older guy while if ustumi jumps to yuki its a vice versa situation

ustumi was the dumpee not the dumper that sounded so funny i had to laugh at it myself
the sempai had a choice to make she was getting along fine with utsumi and even new his feelings but still did what she did without even as a word he had to find out himself

thats like a situation where you have been getting along well with a girl and finally able to ask her out only to walk out preparing the next day to find her on the arms of some other guy and canceling your date
