You're right, though - I've read virtually no hentai and most of what I have I haven't liked. I have read a few "hentai" doujinshi written by women and they focused more on the emotions, but that was probably an exception to the rule. I haven't read a large enough amount of smut to judge the entire genre, either. My opinions are second-hand. It was wrong of me to make value judgements on a genre I have no experience or interest in, and I apologize.
I still don't like bara, though. 😛

Wow, I'm amazed at the response. I LOVE bara. Give me men that look like men. Enough of these silly twinks that can pass for girls. Might as well stick with shoujo if you're going that direction.

I was wrong to generalize. Actually there are hentai without focusing on body parts, and quite a few of them. But that doesn't mean they focus on emotions though. Try these and you will see (they barely even have genital details):

This style of hentai are not uncommon at all as I know.

I'm more of a fan of pretty boys. I prefer it when they actually look recognizably male, but I don't mind too much if they look a little too girly to be natural. As long as they don't act too girly.^^ I tried bara, but I can't get used to it. I hate really muscular men anyway, so I can't like it on paper either. 🤨 But since I go for small and cute guys, I don't think I can say I'm normal. XD

I don't generally read bara, but there are some exceptions. Like Giocatore, Hokaku Keikaku, Let's Meet Here Tomorrow, and Hide and Seek.

no, some bara art is pretty decent like Hide and Seek, Giocatore, Hokaku Keikaku and Swift as Lightning or other works by these mangakas. I'm sure there are many more bara that are 'attractive'. 😃

i like handsome normal looking men. not overly skinny or girly looking guys. takeshi matsu's guys are perfect for my taste. love tagame's works too even though it's full of sm. but generally i read all kinds of bara.
