How would react if something happened to your manga collection? -
Something has happened to your collection of manga how do you think you would react?
Or what happened when your manga did get ruined somehow. (or lost).

  • If your computer got fired and all the manga you downloaded is gone.
  • If your physical manga got ripped apart, burned, or soaked to the point where its ruined.
  • If this has happened to you in the past, do you think it would different now?

Sadly I have had a manga or two destroyed by someone. It was back when I was in high school. This was when my sister and her son were living with me and my mother. Well a baby around that age where he destroys everything got a hold of a few of my manga. I was so sad, and angry. If I didn't cry I almost wanted to, this I do remember. I was angry enough where I wanted to punch a wall several times. At the end I just had to swallow that anger and put my manga in a place more difficult not only for him to get, but for me too.
EDIT:
I remember now, my nephew was teething, and was chewing on a few of my manga. D: my manga was partly eaten.
I actually have 2 more stories to share, but that can be for later.

-Sidenote: I couldn't find anything talking about your reaction to your manga departing from you. Hopefully there wasn't one.

My sister was babysitting her friend's small child in our house when I wasn't home. When I came back she told me that the kid coloured my Fullmetal Alchemist volumes with crayons! I was furious, but thankfully it turned out to be a joke. But I should add that I was mostly angry because I spent so much money on my manga, not in a "nooo my precious collection!" way.
I also lent a few volumes of Ouran High School Host Club to a friend, and she didn't give them back. We've lost contact now and I think I'll never have them back 🙁

I wouldn't care so much about the downloaded stuff. You can always find it again, it's just a huge pain to do so.

My physical collection though? I'd probably cry, and I don't really have the funds to replace them because it's a collection that's slowly built up over the years. So they really would be gone.
If it was one or two that got damaged then I'd be unhappy, but I'd be able to eventually replace those. It's losing a large amount of them that would make me upset.

It happened three years ago; I lent D.Gray-Man vol.12 to a good classmate at the time. He didn't mean to, but ended up damaging the cover a little. Man, that made me upset back then. I didn't say anything to him though, just didn't lend anything anymore. Now the volume is stored in my shelf, being avoided... until now, because I just had a look at it and I kind of wanted to shed a tear.

I don't feel angry at him anymore, though (it's been three years!!), but it's still kind of disheartening to see such a nice thing being ruined... Krory's on the cover 🙁

If someone deliberately destroyed my manga out of hate or spite I would grab my gun and start shooting people, not really but I would kick some ass. If it was an accident, that is a different story, yah I would be pissed, yah I would be yelling and screaming at them, but the most I would do is make them pay double what the manga was worth or they would never be allowed back in my house. As for manga stored on my computer... I have so many backups it's not even funny, I have most stored on my iPod, I have a full back up on an external hard drive and I still have my collection broken up between 5 8GB flash drives that I need to empty.

I was pretty angry when I discovered that the volumes I had ordered second-hand were colored in. If someone deliberately destroyed my whole collection though? I'd probably be a bit vindictive for a while.

Dejectedly got over it. My hard drive just broke last week, I lost my entire 500gb of manga collected over seven years. Some you can't even find online anymore and it's too much of a hassle for me to find everything again since I'm not really into manga much anymore. If this happened four years ago, I'd probably rage to the heavens.

I would be sad with myself, depending the situation. Once I deleted my favorites because I wasn't paying attention, there were a lot (like +1000) mangas favorited, to recommendations to downloading pages. I got really angry with myself for days, but then I thought it was actually good, because I was too addicted (only to see days later a great amount of pages favorited again).

Now I have 30gb of mangas in my computer, maybe. I only keep the ones I really like and only now I decided to download some yaoi mangas I like (didn't like to leave them on my archives)... so if I lost it now, I would be sad because it is a bit hard to find them again, but I think I would be okay with it, since maybe I could organize my reading in the computer. What I'm worried is that some manga just vanished from the internet and others were really hard to download because of the scan group, so losing it again is a bit complicated.

About mangas that I bought, there is only 4 and only one I really love (by Yumeka Sumomo), the rest I would be okay if was damaged in a accident (even though I love my books and mangas, getting angry at the person is a bit silly) - also, I don't lend my things. I have two collections (Death Note and Fruits Basket) that people lent me and never came to take it back (I tried to give it back!), but even right now (6 years later) I don't call them mine.

if the ones on my HDs got destroyed i would not mind so much
easy to find again
so no big problem

it is a little harder to replace bought manga since alot of those are out of print and i dont like buying secondhand goods
so i would be a little sad
not too sad
it is afterall only material goods

if someone just bit on it or ate a couple of pages[my dog] i would not care
as long as it is still readable
otherwise if possible i would try to find a new copy... if i like the manga
if i dont = free space = awesome
