My name is Emilia. Ugly, ugly name, if you ask me (it's the italian version of Emily, really... antique, ancient roman name).

But my friends call me Emi or Mimy, so it's okay. I've gotten used to it by now, anyway.

May I ask which country you are living in? Here in Germany your name became quite popular in the last 10 years. 2006 it entered the top 40 of female names given to babies. Most of the female names ending -ia sound nice when they are pronounced in German (and I think in other languages too), especially the -lia ones.

Btw: My name is Nico. This name reached its peak 1995 when it was on place 14 of the German boys names.

[Edit]
You said your sister hates her name Julia. You can tell her that it is the most attractive female name for Germans:
http://www.beliebte-vornamen.de/attraktive-vornamen.htm
(the page is German but the chart is self-explanatory)

I recently noticed that my two forenames together sound like Jamaica, especially when they're pronounced in English. That's even stranger considering that one of my forenames is nordic. That's as if you could express hot and cold in the same word.

Hhahahaha no way!! I live in Italy, where it use to be more common (or rather, LESS uncommon) in the past (say, a century ago or something), but now it's not very common anymore. Like I said, I know myself, my grandma, and a neighbor (just remembered this morning she was another Emilia I knew of!!... and they're all old ppl, anyway).

So yeah, I should totally move to Germany then!!! ^_^ Meet some people that share my name, that'd be cool!

[Edit]:

Oh and my sis got a kick out of that chart!! ^_^ Especially since her middle name is Alexandra, which means she has the two most popular names (well... except of course Alexander was for boys... but it was still funny!!)

You are really from Italy!? Then you and your sister should definitly come to Germany:
http://www.sueddeutsche.de/panorama/artikel/997/55942/
This time there is no self-explanatory chart. The gist of the article: The Germans (along with the Dutch and the Belgians) consider the Italians as the best lovers. And the chart from my last post was based on a poll of a dating agency. So if your sister meets a German she only has to say her name and homeland and he will fall for her :-)
