I'm looking for a real love story, where the characters actually get to know each other before falling in love. Maybe a josei or something..
If it's a fantasy, it would be really good too^^.
I'm not too keen on high schools(but it's still fine..).. so uni or some work place..
please something with good art^^
Something like Mars I think.. (although she had quite big eyes and went to highschool.. it one of my favs)
I would exclude-
Love from first sight,
Love because of good sex, (rape and than love)
Big eyed shoujo girls,
You get my point...

Sad Love Story? I'm not sure if that's the correct title but it sounds about right...
And it's a manhwa for that matter =)

Spicy Pink (josei, quite good, no falling in love at first sight)
Love Allergy (it's one of my favourites, okay so it's set in high school but there's no cliche involved in it, honestly)
I Hate You More than Anyone (lol)
And W-Juliet. It gives you a look at how the relationship works rather than typical shoujo stuff.

I second W Juliet. Though I'm warning you, you will find a lot of shoujo cliches there. I just like that fact that they really were in a real relationship. They got to know each other, no one fell in love at first sight, no one confessed and declared "let's go out!" or anything like that. It was just something that both of them understood. XD

Kiss - Very romantic. Although the
couple hooks up early , it's not really love at first sight since they had known each other for years. It's not your typical melodramatic sparkly shojo.
Beauty is the Beast - The story focuses mostly on the main guy and girl's friendship.
Nodame Cantabile - Definitely a lot of character development, and also the guy and girl get to know each other
for a long time before hooking up .
Suki - it's been a while since I read this, but it didn't strike me as melodramatic at all.
