Most everyone agrees that nine times out of ten the manga is better than the anime, but have you ever seen the anime first and it made you want to read the manga?

yeh its happend, mostly because the anime would have been too short or left stuff out and you want to find out more.whats annoying is when the anime acts as an 'intro' to the manga.

Yeah, I think that happens pretty often. It's always easier to watch an anime then read a manga (at least for me), so if I want to know if a manga's good, I turn to the anime first. And if I liked the anime, I'll read the manga! =) Same goes for drama => manga. =D

Series that I've gone from anime/drama then manga are Goong, Gokusen, Hellsing, Bleach, Hana Yori Dango, Perfect Girl Evolution..

I would agree. thats how I got in to BECK. saw the anime first then looked to see if there was a manga and there was. also for Kare Kano too =)

I guess that's what happens when you're primarily an anime fan - it's usually the anime that inspires you to read the manga. Stuff like "what really happened", "what happened after the anime", or just being ahead of the anime with the story (like in case with Bleach and One Piece, for example) is what attracts anime fans to manga.

The best thing happens after that, when you discover a load of awesome manga that hasn't been made into anime yet. That's when it becomes the other way around.

That's pretty rare for me, mostly because I plan my anime schedule a season ahead of time and if there's a manga based on the anime I read it first. Usually if that's not the case then the manga came out at the same time/after the anime. That was the case with Simoun and Utena, and I ended up not liking the manga as much. D: Come to think of it, when I read a manga after an anime it's usually Shoujo or something I would've otherwise not read but for some reason was intrigued by the premise when I read it in anime previews.

nonsense, I always read the manga before I watch the anime. That way, I could read the same page over and over and over again.

If there is an anime out on the same title I prefer to watch that instead of the manga. This is for assorted reasons, one of which is simply to be one way to select which manga I read, since there are so many to choose from.
However, I watched Trigun the anime and liked it alot. Then I realized that the manga it was based on totally took the story and characters in a much different direction. So I decided to check out the manga and see the differences. I haven't gotten very far though - just Trigun vol 1 & 2, but none of the Maximum - yet.

That rarely happens, as I'm a heavy manga reader rather than anime watcher. Also, since the manga usually is being made into anime, most of the time, I've read the manga counterpart of the anime that I'm planning to watch. An exception would be Suzumiya Haruhi; I watched the anime then started to read the light novels.

ill anime it up occasionally if the mangas hard to find (genshiken) or slow to scanslate (karin)

Yup, it happens all the time for me... I love the fact that after the anime ends you can find out what's happening in the manga 🙂

Only three times that I believe that this has happened to me, and those three times being Akira, GitS, and Trigun. I would say DB but I mainly just watched the anime and barely read the manga, only read like a few chapters that came in the American Shonen Jump. But other than that I do opposite quite a bit.

well i did it with berserk, I watched the anime first... man it killed me how it ended... then i saw how different the manga was anyways i love them both

That is actually how I got into reading manga, when I watch an anime that I really like and then hear that it is based on a manga then I would want to see the manga as well. I think it is pretty natural to want to see the original format and/or continuation of an anime that you really enjoyed.
