funny thing that 2 days ago i was saying about air gearto a friend who hasnt read any oh! great.
I recall reading tenjo tenge and specifically the volume with the past war between ppl i couldnt even remember their name and their purposes(like is mr with the good guys or not?).
Is the author on heavy drugs or something?

Anyway, the answer is simple, as many people have said already: He's also draws and writes hentai. Hentai storylines have the types of storylines that even anime and manga don't want. And many mangaka that do hentai and try to do a regular manga fail horribly (cough Maken-Ki cough) The only regular manga I've read that was done by someone that does hentai and was at least half decent was AIKI. (The same person did the epic hentai Slut Girl).

Basically, if you find a regular manga that's done by someone that also does hentai, put your expectations to the bare minimum because it's not gonna be good.

Clearly you haven't read that many manga. It's a rather common development actually. Maybe not to aliens, but just take a look at any shounen manga and you'll see ridiculous developments.

Yu Yu Hakusho, Change Guy, Dragonball, etc..

Keep in mind Air Treks were basically on the level of ridiculously advanced technology anyway.

And to all of you who said "It sucked since day one", go read your yuri/yaoi crap. It was a neat sports shounen with cool fights and awesome (albeit unproportioned at times) drawnings. Still, it's pretty much obvious now that he can't plot crap even if his life depends on it. It all goes into the same spiral of selfdestruction. "Normal comedy and fights with neat art - Sort of destiny plot - saving the world all by himself - Super Saiyan lvl 2 - Worldwide involvement (read: Chinese Mafia, USA military) - Super Saiyan lvl 3 & 4 and a slight dose of lame breaking jokes (them being asleep when OmahaLaha finished his speech).

Seriously, the SS fad was over when Dragon Ball was over, you kinda grow tired of it after 20-many volumes and no real development.
The gay dude still has some explanations left, and many other stuff which, I bet, OhGreat forgot about already.

I still can't figure out how come he is still being serialized...

Well i was always under the impression that Air trek was another 20-30 years in the distance. If they're throwing in Obama then I think they should hand over the air treks they've been hiding to about 200 people and just do a slice of life piece on them.

That way they don't need to think about plot too much.

Although, I thought it was interesting that he made Sora a backstabber... but it seems like Oh Great found the drugs his mom hid under his bed once again. =____=;

Yup, I agree too. Air Gear was pretty good in the beginning because the plot was (relatively) simple and the amazing art, decent humor, and nice action carried it. I mean, guy gets beat up, learns a new skill, turns out to be amazingly talented at it and is a super rookie, forms his own ragtag group to beat the established powers. Sounds familiar right? Can't really screw up a tried and true formula... unless you're Oh Great and you decide to trash the plot suddenly and make things go ape shit. What a waste.

Definitely, definitely true. I like people with the same opinion as me ;D! For me, I might have accepted that Sora was evil (it actually was quite a shock), but the appearance of Sora's twin brother put the last nail in the coffin. Even in Kilik's flashback, no one even mentioned him and now he's the leader of Genesis. What the hell. Oh Great probably woke up some day and thought "Damn I need another strong bad guy... hm... YEAH SORA HAS A BROTHER! What? No one's heard of him? I'll just pretend that he's been abroad for the entire series moahaha..."

But yeah... even in the beginning you can see that Oh Great really hadn't decided in which direction to send the plot. Ikki living with sleeping forest members who are his enemies no his family no his enemies no wait his allies no wait he has no relation to them. 😕 Anyway... it's really sad since as you guys said, the art is awesome. And some of the characters are nice too.
