First and foremost; because it's fun, and I love escapism. Everything I do in my free time is a form of escapism, and reading is no exception.

Plus, reading fiction makes you think, like nothing else does. It doesn't tell you what to think; rather, it makes you make your own decisions about things. Non-fiction just isn't the same in that aspect.

just do it for the entertainment..
i wouldn't say that because non-fiction is boring you just have to find the right stuff..
but as much as i love the whole world for its is a brilliant place.. i also like escaping once in a while.. 😀

And it's not that I don't like non-fiction.
I've just come across fewer well written ones, like Stefan Zweig's Marie Antoinette.

Eh, it's non-fiction? I thought all of his work is fiction.

I read non-fiction when I want to learn something new. I read fiction when I want to relax. If relaxing is "a waste of time", then life is a garbage can in the first place.
Real life is cool. It's cool because there's a thing called fiction.

Eh... Yes?
It's a biography based on documents he saw relevant.

I read fiction mainly because its entertaining to go into some other world. Fantasy is probably my favorite ... faeries, monsters, special powers, mystical creatures. I just find it all very fascinating I guess. 😃

Fiction's appeal is its triviality.
That's what makes it a suitable diversion from the more important matters of life(school, work). At the same time it refills your willingness to deal with these more important matters by feeling pointless and a waste of time in the long run.

i love fiction because it has a way of making you wish you had it and non fiction is okay but i dont think any manga is really non fiction. the closest thing i think is slice of life manga.

It's fun and with non-fiction I feel bad being entertained by bad things that happen to people.

I like both, fiction and non-fiction.....
I can't specify what I like specifically since I read almost anything. But most of my favorite story has historical setting. I love it more if it has mix of history and adventure. 😀

I hear you say "Why?" Always "Why?" You see things; and you say "Why?" But I dream things that never were; and I say "Why not?"
