I understand completely with what your saying and i agree. However, i don't exactly think that they should completely get rid of the romance label maybe make like "minor genre" or something to implicate that the romance is a minor part to the story and on the side. This way it is easier to know which manga are romance centered. I've often had trouble seeking for romance manga and had the similar problem.

There seriously needs to be a "main genre" section, and a "sub genre" section. That way, you can look for mystery action manga that contain a whiff of romance, but not enough to distract you from the action/mystery. 😮

I like the idea of being able to search by both main genres and subgenres, but I think that would be complicated to implement, and a lot of users might complain.

Still, it would be a great feature IMO.

If you're looking for manga where romance is most of the story, do a search for romance, and then only look at the manga where there's a max of 2 or 3 genres. If the manga lists shounen, romance, action, etc... You'll know it's not a romance. If the only genre is romance, then it's pretty clear that that is all that that manga can be about.

If something is only 1/3rd romance, you should expect there to be less romance. We shouldn't have to have 4 sub categories for every main category (ala slight bit of romance vs. light romance vs. romance vs. heavy romance.) The implementation of sub-categories would be a huge endeavor in order to make all the current series compliant... And I don't think anyone is going to volunteer to do it.

I could definitely do that, but then you would still miss about 40 - 50% of the stories that you're looking for. There are a lot of series that have a lot of romance in them as well as a combination of all or some of the following; Tragedy, Drama, Gender Bender, Comedy, Action, Fantasy, Smut, Sci/Fi, and/or Psychological.

I'm really saying there needs to be a complete over haul... I just get really annoyed that the Romance Genre is so BROAD! It anything from a boy trying to save the world that has a crush on the girl next to him but never goes past that, to a full blown dramatic romance between two people that have nothing but undying love for each other.

If your looking for one you get them all... It's pretty much a crap shoot when you hit that search button.

How do you define "romantic" or "not romantic enough to be labeled Romantic" though?? That's going to be unique to each individual.

That means I lean toward "no", leave it as it is.

Genre search, you can include or exclude whatever you feel like finding. Not so much of a crap shoot anymore. If you want pure romance then just exclude others, if you feel like including whatever other options then it's all there.

Romance is already defined on this site as between man and woman (from genre page). So long as they satisfy that requirement, any degree of it would still qualify. It's pretty broad in both real life and fiction, so if you're really not satisfied about the genre that's provided here get an interview with the series author and obtain a clear answer from him/her. That'll be the definitive genre that will be locked through a request. But until then, it's at everyone's discretion to not go overboard with changing the genre.

Generally if there's only a few things listed in the genre part of the series just leave it as is. When there's more than 5 then there's something wrong with that and might consider doing something about it.

The series you listed out in the beginning mostly belong to the category or romantic comedies. Mx0, Rosario, Tokyo Crazy all revolve around romance or feelings of love in the main plot. Mx0 could only progress because of the main character's feelings of love for the female lead, Rosario had the love at first sight and working hard for the girl he loves and Tokyo Crazy was pretty clear in terms of its share of love and romance between all their pairings.

For the poll I voted "No" since there's no good reason so far to mess with it. Romance and love in itself is not an easily defined subject and varies from one person to another. If it was so clear cut as you think then this discussion wouldn't even be happening. 😐

I think the genres and sub genre is a good idea. It actually helps filtering a lot!
