whoooo im new at this forum stuff but oh well. i'm just throwing this out there but don't you think the two look alike? i mean Urahara was the former captain of the 12th division and now Mayuri is the current one.

and in chap. 172 they showed his face with out all the make up and i kind of saw a resemblance between the two. =x maybe Urahara was like the soul society's "frankenstein" and Mayuri was his product. [reference comes from the page before they show Mayuri's face, they showed his body with stitches all over it] ;O plus he could regrow his arm -_- i didnt see anyone else in soul societ who was able to =/

Honestly? I don't think so. No offence, of course. It just doesn't seem realistic (as realistic as shounen manga called "Bleach" can get snicker) enough. And if that was so, then why would Mayuri hate/disrespect Urahara?

And it's not as if Kubo didn't draw similar looking characters before 😁

I think that is the exact reason, because he is cruel and wicked. I think I remember Mayuri saying something about the depth and darkness of Urahara's character. Also remember that Urahara made the hougyouku.

wait what? the kids were created by urahara?!? why do you think that?

Given Mayuri's tendancies, I think it would be more likely to say that the stitches are a result of him operating on his own body to make it stronger. And I dont think that Urahara is so self absorbed that he would make a look alike if he were to create an artifical being.

Please read the chapters more closely before making such theories.

The place where Mayuri is imprisoned is for anyone with potential to be of problem in the gotei 13. If Mayuri was the product of Urahara then the Central 46 would've imprisoned Urahara as well as mayuri for the creator is a much greater threat than the product. Heck, if the product was so dangerous they would've imprisoned Urahara before he made Mayuri since that's how the Central 46 seems to work.
In any case, Urahara making Mayuri is not even remotely likely since if the product is indeed defective, Urahara would've destroyed it rather than let it be imprisoned like his other works.

So, just plain and simply No.

Well considering that Urahara was likely the one in charge of imprisoning Mayuri, I dont think it would be likely that if Mayuri was his product, he would detain himself for that mistake. I mean he was the head of the group that helps to relieve the paranoia of Central 46. But that in its own way makes it more unlikely that Mayuri was his creation, since why would he imprison his own creation, if anything he would have probably "fixed" Mayuri after capturing him if he did actually make him.

I think Urahara did not create Mayuri but rather modified him. Maybe he got the potential or some sort of power but was subjected to an experiment conduct by Urahara. The project maybe under supervise by the Central 46. The thing is that the subject, which is Mayuri gone wrong and those at Central 46 mark him as a potential threat to Gotei 13. I think for next chapter Urahara is going to proposed Mayuri to conduct a Shinigami with Hollow power a.k.a Vizard experiment together.
