Weird real life example, I swear that my friends life is playing out like hentai or something. He has been living a pretty normal life and then out of no where some half sister who he has never heard of runs away from her home in Chicago (we live in Los Angeles) and starts living with him. She used his phone and I was texting the two of them for about a week and then one day out of no where she texts me that she is horny and that she is in love with my friend. The thing about Manga is that its very hard to believe its a reality of any kind especially of cliched hard to find in reality characters at least for me. So in a manga, if its tastefully presented, not involving child and parent, with mutual love and not a huge age gap, between long separated siblings, the grossness is reduced in a way. The thing is that I have read real life accounts of something like this which though is hard to live with first hand, from a third person's POV, its tolerable and in manga, if it is properly presented, it can be an engaging read...

"Incest" is a modern way to think. Doing it with your parents is doing with your parents — it's just not right. I think, with your cousin, it might even be positive in some aspect, otherwise it's just the same if s/he's not your relative at all. Your siblings are you siblings, and they should stay your siblings. If you could manage lover and siblings at the same time, I don't see why not.

So I don't really have anything against incest in real life. And in manga, I find sibling love hot. Many people just say straight away "that's sick" for everything they're programmed to think of as "sick". That's just sad.

If it's drawn well and looks good I'll pretty much go for it, even if it's incest. My hentai 'mind' and reality 'mind' are pretty separate, so it doesn't bother me at all. Well... some incest has its limits. Old fart (grandfather, dad x daughter) will turn me away for sure... I like to keep it to drawings I can stand to look at.

This is essentially how I feel.

Have I read some incest manga? Yes.
Do I enjoy it? No. It's creepy unless it's something like the above.

The general unease of cousins mating had more to do with genetic factors than societal unease - at least when it initially became undesirable. Today, it's societally frowned upon, too.

The potential for unwanted recessive genetics is highest between parents/children or siblings, but it can still be fairly high between cousins since both sides could still be recessive carriers from their grandparents. The higher up the genetic tree the common ancestor is, the less likely the recessiveness has passed down to be shared because of the outside genetic influences.

I'm not saying that it's good or bad to consider cousins as 'incestuous', just that the genetic reasons turned into societal reasons over time.
