www.d-addicts.com has tons of descriptions of dramas & some variety shows that you can download on torrents - I think quite a few shows still show up on youtube, but I just torrent so I don't keep track of them. (D-addicts has info. on Asian dramas, not just Japanese, btw.)
There's a thread here at baka-updates about live action dramas, where people have posted mini-reviews of dramas they've seen & suggested ones that they really liked (again, not all are Japanese).
If you want to tell me the kind of thing you like watching (private message, maybe) I might be able to give you some suggestions to get you started.
