I did. I decided that I wouldn't read any of my usual series that I read until my finals were all over. If I wanted to read manga, I would have to read new series, or reread my old ones. I think I almost died the first week haha.

Anyway it gave me a chance to find some new series that I now love (Ouran Host Club, Nodame Cantabile, Blood Alone) and didn't read before just because they were so long and I didn't have time.

It lasted about 5 weeks, and I had a reading banzai today since my finals are all over. (yay!) So I've caught up on just about everything, and can go back to normal.

So, have any of you guys attempted this?
(couldn't find a thread for this, so if there already is one, sorry)

I tried once, but I didn't want it. My computer crashed on me, thus my hell started...
So I was dying during that week + it was during thanksgiving break!! so I was super bored dead
After I got it fixed and all ready to go (after a long week) I was reading so much manga it wasn't even funny bigrazz
So i never wanna go thorough that experience again...

Yup, a few times. It's really easy when you have other things going on with your life and really hard when you don't. It's always easy to stop reading a series though. Did it with Naruto a year ago and I still don't feel any desire to start reading again; also did it with Berserk around the same time and I just started to read that again.

I've done it several times now and will be doing it for my longest period yet and it'll be fairly simple to do. Boot camp, MCT, and the first part of MOS school I had no access to manga and I never really was concerned about finding some way to read them. Yeah I was curious about what was new in the series I might be reading or if a chapter of unblalancexunbalance came out but I never really sat there and worried about manga. There are more important things in life but manga is still a good time killer. I've been thinking of going on Hiatus from manga to let manga that aren't released as often get a couple chapters but then I got picked up for the MEU and will be going on a 6 month hiatus anyway ^_^

I do it quite a lot. Mostly because my mom hates manga so sometimes I can't read it or else she will walk into my room and get pissed. Also I have AP classes so I have a lot of homework I have to do. I haven't read as much manga this school year as last year because I'm kinda on a "manga block" where I can't decide what I want to read and I keep switching mangas and not completing series. I guess I'm being bipolar towards manga laugh

Now asking whether I try to go a day without Japanese related stuff is totally different for me because I watch dramas and movies a lot or I at least listen or watch some J-pop music videos everyday.

I've done it whether I have to study for an exam, going on a vacation or simply doing other hobbies like video games, biking or swimming.

Yes, other things take precedence. I have had a lot going on so I haven't been able to read anything for the past few weeks.

I did, I fell into an emo state and didn't wanted to read anything, the most depressing part is that I was playing tibia in place of it

Same for me: if i have something i must work/study hard on, i dont feel like reading/taking time to read manga. When im free/bored, i happily get my preferite series and read them with delight. :3

Sure. I take a month or so and don't read it from time to time. Not that it was particulary fun or dull... I read too much of it I think... but when I stopped my brain just made me start rereading book-books so... I read too much period I think. laugh

No manga? Easy and done that before, heck, the longest period without manga I think was 1996~2003, so about 7 years without manga bigrazz.

More or less because I moved and internet sucked back then, didn't get back into it until it started picking up here.

Nah, not really. I mean, I've gone days/weeks without reading manga just because I was busy with other things or didn't feel like reading manga or was focused on watching dorama, but I've never purposely *tried* to go without manga.
