Is Yuri/Yaoi a genres or demography?

In animelist, they said it's a genres while here they said it's a demography. So, which one is saying the truth??

Double posting is against forum rules unless bumping after 7 days had past.
As to the topic, yaoi/yuri is listed as a genre in the genres page, but I see it mentioned as a demographic sometimes in the forums .... So probably both?
But it is definitely considered a genre here, that I at least know.
