What. The. Hell.
Whats wrong with this god damn manga? I don't intend to bash it since I like Medaka and Zenkichi as characters but the whole damn plot is just so....uncoordinated. After reading 130 chapters of this all I know so far is that Medaka is a monster human being and Zenkichi is in love with her and plans to confess soon or something. Everyone else is a peon and has their own background story but the plot is so unorganized that they just fall into the backdrop. The author truly does not give a sh*t anymore and is planning to probably just end this so he can start something new. I hope at least we can get a proper Medaka x Zenkichi ending with Medaka's mental problems solved and Zenkichi's naivety cured.

P.S. Someone said something about this being similar to Gintama but worse...completely right.

What are your thoughts? Any predictions? I do wonder about something though, the author said he would end the manga before the anime started, So...I wonder how the anime is going to end? Will it follow this hectic plot line to the T or will it divulge?

He's NiSiOiSiN! His works are bound to be weird. Try watching Katanagatari, Bakemonogatari and Nisemonogatari and you'll see what I mean.

Indeed it is true you can't take the logic in this manga seriously. I guess you gotta read this from the point of view as a teen eh...I see why its in Shounen Jump lol.

To be fair, both those series follow their own, albeit twisted, form of logic and structure.
The strongest aspect of those series are the characters imo. Plus, the stories follow a consistent theme or situation. (supernatural creatures and outlandish swordfighting)
Medaka Box on the other hand starts of as a school life comedy, turns into a sort of contest manga and then turns into full blown battle manga.

I really like most of the characters myself (Medaka is awesome in her outlandishness and Zenkichi is straight up badass.), I just never managed to get past the fight between Zenkichi and Kumagawa. At that point the plot already made no sense anymore. How it is possible that this manga is still running is beyond me.

P.S. Anybody mind giving me a short summary of what happens after that point?

People actually like Kurokami Medaka as a character? Am I the only one that hates her?

In case people haven't read Bakuman, Medaka Box turned out like this BECAUSE it is on shounen jump, not the other way round. In fact the comic itself has been taking jabs at the magazine's style, whether for comic relief or dissatisfaction on the author's side I do not know.

you are not, i hate her almost as much as i hate Hinagiku from Hayate the combat butler, but masochist guys and most normal girls are into that kind of girl...

there are a lot of masochists guys in Japan.

... Anyway, you won't find much Medaka hate in the Medaka forum.

you cant overlook the fact that medaka box is somewhat a deconstruction of shounen manga

My God. I know this is posted about 25 days since the last reply, but, I can't stand this manga. I wrote a quick review, but after 15 chapters, all of which take about 15 minutes to read for some weird reason, it is terrible.

If I have to take this "absurdity" as a good aspect of Medaka Box to enjoy this series, then does that mean I should take the "absurdity" of "Happiness!" and enjoy it?

I've heard about this series also being "the deconstruction of the shounen demographic" several times, especially in this thread. This is not logical at all. If that was so, would every series that has superhuman characters be a "deconstruction of the shounen demographic?"

As for the comedy, I don't understand how this series is providing a comic relief by making puns and jokes on the magazine, when the dialogue is extended for absolutely no reason, and the characters' abilities make them. How is this making fun of the magazine? I don't comprehend your ideas... well, no, I do. It's a common biased opinion due to the writer being a highly respected author.

I do not hate this series, nor do I hate any of the characters, but I have to admit, this series is bad in my eyes. This series is not weird at all, and in matter of fact, it isn't unique in the perspective of someone who could read another shounen manga with nearly the same kind of characters, hopefully without making the series completely boring with dialogue that just bores the reader.

I've always had troubles with enjoying Nisio Isin's anime and manga, mainly because none of his series (at least when adapted to an anime, with this manga being the exception. if I don't enjoy his series, I don't believe I should bother with a light novel of such) have made any logical sense at all. There is no premise to his works (again, to me). Nisemonogatari was a train wreck, with absolutely no plot, unless you consider interacting with your sisters to be "plot," Bakemonogatari had it's problems, especially with introducing characters. The characters were introduced terribly, with sudden brief introductions to someone you will never fully understand. In the end, it was decent, but Nisemonogatari was just "bad."

Personally, I do enjoy Katanagatari (it would get about a 7, which is not terrible) to some extent, but for this, I'm on the verge of fainting simply due to how boring this series is.

Please enlighten me, if possible, why this series is enjoyable.

Although 15 may not seem like a lot, as I've said before, I've spent 15 minutes on each 20 page chapter, and even then, it felt like an hour each.

well i have a hate love relationship with this manga (havent read all about 100 chapters), i really don't think this holds out plot wise and character construccion since they've only build about 2-3 good characters, but i sort of like the whole taking jabs at the shounen manga.

The only enjoyable series by Nisioisin is Zaregoto (novel), at least for me, probably because it is pretty much episodic and auto-conclusive (but obviously if you want to compare it to some of the best mystery novel such as Hakomari, then... lol, better not ever think about it). Every other of his works, even the most celebrated ones, never said anything to me, with Medaka Box setting a new low in the world of manga for me. Never read anything so irritating as this manga, I think I only gave 1/10 to two manga here, and one of them is this one.

So at least, you're not alone.

well the characters are eccentric thats perhaps what i enjoy the most there isnt much of a story going on but its pretty fun to see how some of the characters can do a 360 and go from villain to hero or vice versa

The only reason I read this manga is because of his interesting twists in logic, I find it quite amusing.

But really, this manga is all over the place. Great art at least or I would've dropped it!
