Ichigo may be the main protagonist, but the main players in Bleach are Aizen and Kisuke. Back when Ichigo was trying to reclaim his powers, that kid (ginta i think) comments that most people who go through the chain encroachment thing turn into hollows before the final one (somethin like that). This shows that Kisuke was conducting hollowfication experiments of his own (remember it was Kisuke who created the hogyoku) so he must be aware of Ichigo's hollow potential. Likewise, Aizen must know of Ichigo's hollow potential, as he relied on the chaos caused by Ichigo in the soul society to carry out his plans. This is why he shows an interest in Ichigo and sends Ulquiorra to investigate him. Remember, during the espada meeting Aizen says not to underestimate him. I reckon Aizen's plans involve using Ichigo in some way.

This is mere speculation of course, do don't take what I'm saying too seriously.

i think that i once said something sorta like this but i like your version better. i wish i could find it...
i think what i said was that we know that kurosaki isshin was exiled/left a while before (?) the flashback chapters to shinji and friends. why? dunno but i think that he is backing up aizen. why again? ichigo. why else would he turn out that way? he was probably the final human to be hollowified. then they (aizen and isshin) realized that it wiould work better if they reversed the process and shinigamified hollow. urahara has no idea of this development as he shared data with isshin (probably)
that as a long shot 🙂

SPOILERS!!!

The chapter starts with Rukia, Chad and Renji.
Yammy appears in front of them (falls from above).
He says "That four eyed bastard, I'm gonna kill him!"
The he goes to attack the three of them but suddenly they can all feel a huge reiatsu.
Rukia asks "Is that Ichigo's reiatsu?"

The scene changes.

We see Ulqui who still has his head, right side and lower half intact. Ichigo tosses him away but then walks towards him intent on chopping up what is left. Ishida stops him.
Ishida: "If you go any further you won't be human anymore, stop this Kurosaki." Ichigo faces Ishida and then draws his sword before stabbing Ishida in the abdomen.

While Orihime is walking towards Ishida she can hear Ichigo talking. "He..help...I will help." Ichigo mutters as if it's a mantra.
Orihime is astonished (it's like she is disappointed in herself because she came here to help and then just ended up relying on Kurosaki kun again). She says "stop it Kurosaki kun" but Ichigo just moves towards Ishida. He is about to kill him with a cero from his horns however, Ulqui who was meant to be dead helps Ishida by cutting off one of Ichigo's horns and folding the other (Ulqui's body is fixing itself little by little).

It ends with a big explosion over Ichigo's head.

sidetext: The last attack (the spoiler writer commented that maybe it means Ulqui used the last of his power to save Ishida, though this is just speculation).

The title is the Lust 6.

Yup, hollow Ichigo and it only took hundreds of chapters to get there.

And I doubt Ulqui saved Ishida because he wanted to, he probably just took the opportunity to land a blow on Ichigo since he was distracted anyway. And if Ulqui was 'regenerating' all the while that must mean there's more to his powers, or maybe he really did just use his last ounce of energy.

The way Ichigo became a generic shounen protagonist since the Hueco Mundo arc started made it too obvious.
