Aria
Ares
Clover
Dear
Detroit metal city
Kiss xxxx and KUSUMOTO Maki's other series including K no Souretsu
Kurosagi Shitai Takuhaibin
Me & the Devil Blues
Mushishi
Suppli

edit: I can also list many underated Josei/seinen series, but i know they will be popular in future... like nodame cantabile which has already broken through the barrier.

Many of Manga-sketchbook and Mangascreener series are underrated.. what a shame because most off them are fantastic.

Hoshi no Koe

Ahh yes. Never read the manga but the OVA was brilliant. The fight at the end was one of the most intense scenes I've ever seen in an anime. 😃

The OVA and manga made me cry.. one of the very few anime/manga that could trigger my tear gland, expecially for an OVA which was around 25min long... i consider this underrated as well

Trust me I've been looking high and low for it on the web since apparenty I have to pay for an IRC account and I'm kinda low on cash right now. 🙁

I'd also like to add X to the list. One of CLAMP's best. Overshadowed by Cardcaptor Sakura and it's various AU's and Chobits.

Well, I'm not actually sure if mine count as "underrated", but I personally haven't heard many people talking about them, so I guess so. I quite liked Mekakushi no Kuni and Ichigo Channel.
They were both quite original I guess. Well, Mekakushi no Kuni was anyway.
I also second Othello.

Me & the Devil Blues

Damn near my favorite manga of all time.

Kurohime is excellent, and very much underrated

c´mon Homunculus is not underrated.
It´s even overrated after vol. 6 if you ask me.

And just for the sake of reason here, there´s no shounen underrated, not really. Shounen has this huge market for it, and people buy all the stupid and void plots. Not to mention you might come across with unfinished pages, after all, you´re going to buy it anyways.

Seinen genre tends to be underrated.
Many Band-of-Hawks, Kotonoha and Snoopycool projects pass with very few readers "Me & the Devil Blues and Koroshiya 1 included".

Yes, I´m generalizing and nobody -should- care about it.

You're dead right. I admit, there does be the odd popular scanlation from them, but the majority of their stuff is seriously overlooked.

I think that a bunch of dropped projects are underrated.

If I had the skillz, I would start a group to pick up some dropped great manga.

My choice for most underrated manga: 3 Gatsu no Lion. Only a few chapters translated, but it's a seriously poignent story about personalities, loneliness, loss, and relationships. Definately worth the read and has my sincere wish for continued scanlations.

I also agree that Snoopycool and Kotonoha make great choices for scanlation projects - I've never been disappointed by their work (sure hope Kotonoha doesn't go through with their threat to discorporate at the end of 2008 - their loss to the English-speaking manga world would result in unnumbered tears!). I have to check out Band-of-Hawks.
