I disagree.. They've already learned a proportianate(sp?) amount of their teachers.. and now basically, they have to 'learn' themselves.. Create new techniques themselves.. since when don't you control your technique?of course the bijuus are still in this statue but since it's pains jutsu he has to be able to use it somehow.he just doesn't have the power to release the combined bijuus yet but that doesn't mean he can't use the power somehow.at least it wasn't said yet and since we are now in the part where we get to know pain better we'll see...

Sasuke is a Genin too.. But he still could beat Deidara (an S-class criminal).. I think ranks are absolete now.. Naruto even defeated Kakuzu.. and Kakashi himself, who is a Jounin btw, said that Naruto surpassed him.. Also Sakura has put a great struggle against Sasori (again another S-class criminal).. A normal Genin/Chuunin could have never done that..

Too true about the "ranking system" being absolute in terms of defining how strong one is. That in itself is another symbolic touch that helps to show a defining difference between Sasuke, Naruto and everyone else. They have grown beyond the simple ideas of the ninja world. Like how they were told in school about ninja being nothing more than weapons or tools and yet both are becoming more than that.
Maybe Jiraiya was mistaken about which person he would teach that would "revolutionize" the ninja world destroying it or saving it? Referring to both Pain and Naruto?
The Sannin don't really NEED to die but it would go along way in showing the symbolic nature of student defeating or surpassing master, legendary heroes giving way for the next generation, trying to correct past mistakes.

Anyways, why one of the Sannins would die..? Well, one of the main messages of "Naruto" is, that the younger generation will surpass the older.. Which kind of makes the older generation look absolete/weak.. In turn, they're just cannon fodder..
Also it would make the new generation look so much stronger, when they do defeat that same opponent..

I would have to 50% agree with that cause it was more emotional out burst than Naruto really controlling it out right like during the exam. But it is true that his power despite not being able to control it made everyone at least reevaluate the power scales.

@ meta: a battle with Sasuke vs. Itachi and Naruto vs. Pain wouldn't be 2v2 lol
more like 1v1 and 6v however many bunshins Naruto is using at the time. 🤣
Oh and Doc I have another reason Jiraiya could possibly die. He lost an arm so it's going to make performing the hand signs for his jutsu's a lot harder. Yes, it's been proven you can do it one handed, but has Jiraiya shown he can do it?

Well, as of now, Jiraiya really hasn't done anything with two hands in the fight.. Ultimate Rasengan, Genjutsu Song, spitting oil.. So he could continue the fight using only one arm..
Though he already had problems with three Pains, let alone 6 Pains.. 🤢
I think there are 3 possibilities now as how the story will go:
- The scene switches to the others..
- Jiraiya dies..
- Interference in the fight, example; someone coming to 'save' Jiraiya..
What I don't see happening, is Jiraiya continuing the fight.. And actually winning.. 🤣

anyways to answer the thing about Kakashis generation:all of the senseis are around his age.Kurenai,Guy,Asuma...Iruka too and Shizune's also about that age.They aren't exactly his age but they are the same generation.Also the other Jounin are mostly around that age too(like Hayate was)...propably also some ANBU like Yamato,some of them are of course older but you get the idea,right?
so they weren't ignored completely but most of them just weren't shown
