Besides, you may not have said anything about weird plots but you never said anything against them either. It's still Josei and most of what I was gonna recommend are already there anyway...

Nodame Cantabile
They're different 'cause they really play on their situations (yakuza and music respectively) and make it integral to the story instead of just window dressing.
And seconding OGAWA Yayoi (author of kimi wa petto) who's stuff is consistently solid and interesting.

Otona no Mondai has fun slice of life crazyness

sigh can't you just go to the series genre search and tag josei...then check the ones with the best ratings...it's fun looking for new manga on your own...

Well, yeah I could do that, but there is no fun with that, for example I can't ask the search engine things like

Omae ga Sekai wo Kowashitai nara: HorroR? I don't know, there are horrors that can't even match Gantz in bloodshed and are not scary at all and there are horrors that can surely make you shit your pants, if this one is any of those I AM NOT READING IT.

I will mention the ones I like- Clover, Nana are my faves though I am sure you have gone through the latter.
I happen to like Nico Nico Diary, probably coz I am sorta 🙁 in the main character's age group ..Body & Soul is one of the I like of that mangaka..
Hyakki Yakoushou is also my favest but it has no romance in it, it feels almost like Seinen though..
Hotaru no Hikari has romance and has a drama series in it, its am interesting setting of how a 27 female ended up living with her 40 year old boss due to convenience- one of those relationship mangas I guess..
