it´s no only weird in english. we germans also have the word "dick" which means "fat" (adjective) in english.

I have no intention of having children, but even if I did, I doubt I'd give them anime/manga related names. They'd stick out too much, and there are enough kids in my country with ridiculous names that get them bullied.

If I really like the name and it has a nice meaning then probably.

lol many people name their children names from different origins. Like I know a black girl named Tatiana which is a Russian name if I'm not mistaken. I don't think the origins should matter. As long as you think about if it'll affect your child as they are growing up.

Like the name Yuri. If more children are reading manga in the future and they know what the genre Yuri means. Then that child could be labeled as liking girls when in fact she may like guys. Just some kids are like that. Depends on how she will handle having such a name. That's just a example. Not like it will really happen. Who knows.

What I'm saying is that people should seriously think when naming their kids.

I don't think I would name my child after anime character..lol. but if I like the name then why not use it but it wouldn't really have anything to do with the character and also finnish and japanese have sum names in common(Riku,Kai,Mika...) and we pronounce the names pretty similarly(is that even a word *_*) so I don't think it would be that wierd even if I did use a japanese name. something like Rina,Aya,Maya,Saya,Haru,Yuki etc...but then again I happen to own a huge baby name book which I use when I name my comic characters so I hav lots of names I've come to like so who knows which name my kids will end up having but I would never give then sum super wierd name that would be just rude and akward..now I don't want my baby to hate me.

I think its fine as long as it's not really obscure. I don't really want to name my purely English/Iranian children things like "Haruhi" or "Takahiro." I'd like to name them within reason, like "Ciel" or "Yuki" (which just is pretty and not too japanese) or "Lucy" or "Edward" which is unfortunately tainted by Twlight, or even "Faye." They can all pass as reasonable, believable names.

But don't really think naming kids after anime/manga is that weird (as long as it has a decent meaning)... People are even naming kids after their favorite pr0n actor, dictator (saw a guy on tv a few years back that was named Adolf Hitler, and funny thing is, he's black... kinda curious what was his reaction when he find out after who exactly he was named) and even Twilight characters

And iirc, Yuri is quite a popular name in Japan ^-^ (or atleast used to be)
