Hide Post Counts

Post counts are pointless numbers that only serve to degrade the quality of posts in forums.
Unfortunately, some individuals on here feel that instead of contributing anything of substance to the forum, they'd rather boost up their posts to gain some kind of e-respect.
As post count is just a number that causes un-needed drama, I'd suggest hiding it from view. This would cause an increase in the number of quality posts, as people would no longer have reasons to make short quips of no value.
This would also place more value on the message being posted, rather than the person posting it.

Although i think highly of posting.. one might be a degrace or disgrace whatever but one might be that all your posts are good contribution and high number. I myself, not a proud person with my posts but I feel like i am a member of the forum when i see my post counts.. 😐
But anyway not trying to charge your suggestion. Can it be optional to hide or view it? =D

That would be fine. However, it would preferably be set, by default, to hidden.

i think it's rather unnecessary to hide posts. I've not seen any other forums out there that do this. E-respect can not be attained by post count, it can only be attained by post quality and neither the poster but the reader chooses whether this person deserves respect.
I don't base someone's respect on their post count but their actions - ie i respect the folks who started this site, who run and maintain it publically and privately, scanlators and people who make the site what it is. Not having a go at you btw even though it might seem that way, just trying to get my opinion across. :-)

You've never seen post count-less forums? How many forums have you been on? o.O Have you seen an imageboard then? It works great on those.
Also, whether you believe it or not, people believe that others are worth more based on their posts. The average noob is going to listen to crazy-posts-a-lot-guy who offers no real advice more than intellectual-one-post-man.
You may not base respect on this, as you've been around the internet a bit, right? But not everyone's like you. Most people are like the average noob that I've described. They haven't invested the time into looking at people's replies before latching onto someone and taking their word at face value just because of a number beneath their names.
I think even you would agree that the number serves no real effective purpose, and can only lead to pointless drama. The costs outweigh the benefits. Therefore, they should be removed.

Hallelujah! I don't know you but I love you already.
It would be great...people posting only to talk with others and not to get into the 'top 20'.
I know, that it won't stop people from spamming ( yes, but at least it will stop all those people who participate in some sort of posting race here )

Then nothing's gonna change. And you know that. Will you hide it? Of course not.
If this suggestion won't pass, I will become a spam monster. Maybe then the problem will get so big, that noone will be able to ignore it 🤣

That's probably the point. I don't want to change it and i don't think forcing people to hide it is gonna' work either. >_>

I think that's non sequitur, just because the post counts are invisible doesn't mean the the quality of post would go up (what you said was a bit mean though, we're not stupid here). I'm not saying that your suggestion is bad, but you're reasoning isn't really sound.
I don't think post counts really matter, so hide it or show it doesn't bother me one bit. Just like what you said that there's some sort of "respect" that people with high post counts gain, there's also a backlash (i.e. high post count=spammer).

I have a pretty high post count, but I don't consider myself in the post/spam race. I haven't done word association for a while now, and I feel like I try to make a quality post every time even when I only post to tell a joke or say something silly. Actually...I don't care if we hide the post count or not cuz I have a boring job all day and nothing to do at night so I plan to keep posting as much as I do now anyways.
I don't think anyone around here respects me anyways.
Life is tough......but it's tougher if you're stupid.

Well basically, although you may have seen it in your experience, you can't really prove there is a correlation between High Post-Count and Respect. or at least i think thats what amaranthine is trying to say. And i kinda agree, i mean post count shouldnt make a serious difference in respect, but i think it adds a bit of a 'Usual Suspects' kinda feel to it. Because you see the same people (Mamsmilk lol) around the forum. Gives it a Homey Film. 😀

Are you saying that it isn't obvious or common sense, or something that can be derived with the very least amount of critical thinking and logic?
Good sir, it's a pretty established fact that the more integrated a person appears in a given social hierarchy, the more that someone who is looking for their own place in that hierarchy will listen to their advice. I'm afraid I don't have the exact sociological term for it at the moment. So I guess that you'll just have to take my word on it. (See what I did there?)

Hey join the club, I can't remember the last time that someone commented on something I've said. That and just about every thread I start dies early.

Post count really doesn't degrade the quality of the post. It's the person's intent when making the post that makes the post quality degrade.
Personally I don't pay attention to post count since it really doesn't matter how many posts one has but the content of the posts that the person has posted. Also I doubt hiding the post count would increase the quality of the posts since if someone wants to make a post that is of low quality and sentence structure there is nothing to stop them from doing so.
God I get sidetracked, I started posting this 10 minutes ago and this is as far as I got.

I guess what I'm saying is that statistically speaking i don't think we can just go ahead and say if we take away post counts, people wont still think Mamsmilk is king of forum because he has 3,000 posts(estimate). because although there isn't a number, anyone who uses the forum has probably seen him at some point, probably at many points. and of course its given that if someone is looking to integrate themselves into a social hierarchy, they will likely take advice from someone they see as being integrated into that hierarchy. But I don't think there is any reason to say that the people only "appear" to be integrated into the social hierarchy, instead of actually being integrated into that social hierarchy. If a person is recognized on a forum, for whatever reason be it for spamming, or for having very elaborate responses, I think that they are integrated into that hierarchy, irregardless of post count. post count just makes it obvious to people who don't use the forum often to see these people right off the bat. So i just don't really see the point in this. Just my 2 cents
Can't read >_<
right...>_> so posting is evil now? ...that's just lovely.
ironically... i feel like crap when i see my post count. i must have been real bored over the summer XD
