Ancient, immortal (possibly wise) protagonist.

Title speaks for itself really. I've been reading a bundle of action, adventure types plots with impulsive and young protagonists and frankly getting a bit bored of it. So now I'm looking for a manga where the protagonist is very old (as in hundreds or maybe even thousands of years old), immortal - and perhaps has wisdom to go along with those years. Would be great if the protagonist was something like a vampire or demon variety, but anything that fits the 'very old' category is fine! I'm mainly looking in the action/adventure/fantasy genre, but whatever genre is fine as well. Romance is a plus, but not necessary, and the protagonist can be male or female. thanks!

thank you! Ive read a few but most Ive forgotten about and passed over, especially Noblesse. Funny Ive been passing Noblesse for ages and not even noticed that its exactly what I want.
Any more suggestions would be appreciated if there are any! Alot of these are male leads which is fine with me, but if there are any female immortal leads that would be great to!

Maybe a bit of spoiler, so just in case :
**Blood+ **has several immortal characters. I watched the anime, it's absolutely worth it. Pure awesomeness.
Durarara!! has one as well.
Also, I'm seconding Immortal Rain, Trinity Blood and Noblesse.
Oh, yeah.
Higurashi no naku koro ni (+ sequels) qualifies as well, and it's awesome, but you've got to love the style. And Umineko no naku koro ni fits as well, but I haven't watched (nor read) it yet.
