Well, I think it has both good and bads.
My opinion is, you can't get rid of child porn and child abuse. Sadly, it will always be there.

*One one hand, if a child is roaming the internet and finds a site that consists of shota or loli, this could draw interest to he/she and could disturb them as they get older, leading them to commit child abuse or sexual abuse to an actual human.

*One the other hand, if someone is into this kind of thing, it could very well keep them away from any kind of act of abuse, they could just stick with the drawings.

Either way, they both have their ups and downs....

I'm not a fan of either. It's creepy in my opinion.

I don't care for either all that much, but I have read a few cute ones. As long as it's from the mangaka's imagination and not experiences (not as if I'd ever know, but that would be horrible), I have no problem with them.

If the boys are cute and the story's sweet, then I love shotacon.

The closest I've ever come to touching that sort of thing with a thirty foot pole was reading the novel Lolita, which was rather sad and disturbing, rather than sexual...

I'll be honest here I don't actually mind reading lolicon or shotacon hentai or otherwise. How ever I do not condone real child pornography. In fact I hate anyone who use these genre as a excuse to assault on kids.

I admit it, I really like the shota aesthetic. Cute 12-year-old boys in short trousers are so moe! ^^ That's just it, though - I'm moe for shota, but not in a sexual way. I think I'll go ahead and call it maternal instinct.

I don't like any kind of children in any kind of porn (although I don't have anything against people that read loli or shota hentai as long as they don't go for real children). Romances between pretty men or women around 20 and a shota over the age of 11 (like Loveless) are nice, though. I also did like the yaoi Awakening Puberty, which is sort of a shotacon, but the boys are in high school and I liked it for the story, not the sex (there isn't much of it anyway).

I also love the loli aesthetic as long as it isn't oversexualized and involves lots of petticoats, but I find romances between little girls and adults unbearably creepy. Probably because I know what it's like to be a little girl and have a little sister. Double standards, hooray!
