I like Shotacon, but there are limits to what kinds. Don't like lolicon, but I don't hate it, it's just not as tolerable as shotacon is to me.

First of all there's a difference between shota/loli art and content...

If u ask me do I like shota/loli art - which is nowadays popularly called moé - than yes I do and I like to draw it too...

By content I'm picky but not because I find the genre disgusting rather because i dislike stupid and meaningless plots...

Honestly I can't make a connection between shota/loli and pedophilia - which is the most discussed issue of this genre...Simply because for me manga are paper and ink...Nothing more, nothing less...I accept that most ppl make this parallel but I'm just not able to do it...

On contrary I'm against under18 gravure modelling that is highly popular in Japan...I'm a fan of gravure idols and AV idols but U18 gravure girls ( especially U15 ones ) freak me out...I think that's the real crime and not the shota/loli genre...

I also dislike notable fanservice - mostly in anime!! The fanservice scenes look so not fitting to the storyline > > I just don't like that...

I agree with you, Strawberry. Gravure idols in Japan have really gone too far! The youngest one now is 9, did you know? And remember that half-joking diplomacy thing with China where they had that 11-year-old gravure girl with D-cups say she wouldn't like China if they were mean to Japan anymore? >_o

And as you said, there's a difference between liking the little kid aesthetic and liking pedophilia. I think little kids are adorable. I love being around them. I'm one of the view who reads loli/shota hentai naturally seperating the two main features

• liking/finding adorable the shota/loli character in a non-sexual way
• liking the drawn art of the intercourse

I don't know if I agree with the argument that you can't become lolicon or shotacon from reading lolicon or shotacon. Personally, I know that I became a non-sexual shotacon from reading my idol Heldrad's non-sexual shotacon web manga, Cloe Remembrance ([url]http://cloeremembrance.thewebcomic.com[/url]). 😛 But then, Heldrad is Heldrad. She does that kind of thing.

The way "children" are portrayed in hentai material could easily make people interested or at least curious, I think, but if it makes them interested enough to actually rape a child then they definitely weren't right in their mind to begin with. It's far more likely that actual pedophiles will be able to use the material as a release, which makes it invaluable. It's my opinion (and that of a lot of analyzers) that the availability of such material is what brought the rape rate in Japan to what it is today, the lowest of any developed nation.

I really suspect rape can be underreported. On the other hand, there can be false or ambiguous rape cases. For example, a man and a woman had sex in a drunken night. The next day she accused him of raping her and sometimes there's even evidence. Our newspaper here always has such articles. That can happen and influence the reported rape statistics. I think culture should play a role too. Maybe that happens less often in Japan, or a lot of rapes are unreported? Those are possible, you know. Have you read Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan? What her mother did to the heroine and what kind of attitude she had towards what happened to the daughter. Perhaps that's pretty normal among some people (though the original story was written by a Korean author, but that could happen in Japan too)?

That means that statements that claim "Japan has the fewest number of rape cases" should be taken with a grain of salt. However that culture, while still present, has declined significantly over the past half-century, meaning a higher percentage of rapes committed will be reported. And the rape rate in Japan has still declined dramatically in the past few decades. Of course, correlation doesn't always denote causation.

I really don't think the argument that "gay porn can't make straight people gay, so child porn can't make normal people pedophiles" is correct. Pedophilia isn't an orientation, it's a fetish. Fetishes are acquired.

I absolutely can't stand lolis. That being said, I don't look down on people who like lolis either. I do however appreciate shotas, and not because of the little boy aspect... 🤣 I like it when the shota is paired with an older woman. The age difference between them interests me. I have a thing for older women, anyways, even as a kid. So, I identify myself with the shota.

I generally dislike both genres but there are some xceptions like I like Otoyomegatari even though there's some Shotocan in it but most of the times I tend to stay clear of Shotacon and Lolicon
