I keep my manga reading quiet, so I don't really know how my friends feel about it. It's not that I care if they know, it's just that if one of my friends does like it I'm kinda afraid I'd have to talk about it. It's okay on a forum, because if I don't want to hear it I can just go to a better topic, but I don't like telling people to shut the hell up in real life.

I don't really care if people don't like manga, that's their preference, but the only thing that gets me is if people hate you for reading manga. That's just weird o.O

Hmm most people I know watched Toonami and such so they don't really hate it, but they're not hardcore or even an enthusiast like me.

I haven't met anyone yet that really hate it. There are people I know who don't read it but it's not like they outright refuse, it's just not to their taste. They also want direct downloads where as I get most of my manga from IRC.

If I do meet someone who does hate manga for no reason I'd point it out and call them a bigot after I kicked them in the balls 😀 .

Quote from ghinzdra

The 1st manga is Taniguchi's Haruka Na Machi He
To understand how biased it is you have also to consider that Taniguchi is a huge fan of FB comics and especially Moebius ,that he belongs to this group called "la nouvelle manga"

Yeah, I heard that France was mad for Taniguchi. I do respect France for having a more Seinen-based manga readership. And Moebius has had some deep impact on some manga-ka, such as Taiyo Matsumoto, Katsuhiro Otomo, Tsutomo Nihei and all those Art-Nouevelle manga artists (all of which I love).
I've been meaning to try out "Blue Pills" by Franklin Peeters too...

I've seldom met people who hate manga in general with the exception of people who hate all comics in general. Typically I'd only meet people who hate a genre or series.

Those who dislike manga typically complain that the characters look alike to them. I used to argue about different styles and better stories but I've long since deduced that they probably can't read anyway and I was just wasting my breath.

Maybe my family and some of the older folks I used to know would hate manga. However, as for those who eschew manga in terms of novels with considerable thickness, I've got this to say: it's not the amount of words that matter but how expressive the words and story are, which matters.

There're many books which're thick, massive epic stories. However, only a handful are actually any good. The rest are mostly imitations of one another.

My dear brethren In Croatia (a land where if you ask someone what a manga is they answer "do you put ketchup on that?") there are no manga haters because there are no manga-knowers, and if you do read manga people consider you an idiot and a kid just because their definition of an anime is Ash bloody Ketchup running around with Pikachu and getting other pokemons and they associate that with everything anime related like manga, hentai or other stuff

i think there isn`t a problem for people to hate and make fun of manga [ i love manga by the way ]

i think it`s all about your attitude.

im in high school, and theres kids that run around the halls like how naruto runs and act like total nerds, and people hate them, make fun of them, and have a negative image about manga.

[ im not trying to brag ], but im very popular in school, and everyone knows i like manga. but nobody hates me, or tell me "mangas gay" or whatever. i dont run around the halls like naruto, or whatever.

and the reason why i think theres no problem with people hating manga is because i dont care what they say. they can talk all they want. i hate what other people like and make fun of them. like if someone likes to watch **blues clues**, wouldnt you make fun of them?

The people that usually don't like/hate manga around me, basically have the excuse of... "OMG he's reading porn/hentai!"

word, i agree.....everyone has something that there into that most people aren't wether they're "open with it" or "closet fans".....but for the most part it depends on the person themselves how others will reflect on it,....not to sound like an asshole or anything, but if you're just publicly lame.......people are going to think you're lame regardless, i dont think the manga has anything to do with it really......it's all about attitude and prioitys.....if your attitude is "i'm a nerdy manga reader" and you prioritize that over certain things that aren't considered fly....i mean lets be real, i can only speak for myself, but people who i've known (me included) just casually clown on people for anything....it's just jokes though, and i've been joked on for watching anime, but it's never effected the image of who or what i am......because of the other stuff i do or am into you know?, because i love boxing and i train everyday to become a pro boxer, and i even got into manga because of boxing (Hajime no Ippo).....but on the other hand,if you have no goals in life, and you just like reading manga....and you just live for manga (not that i'm putting that down, to each his own) then yeah....i assume people will hate on it, and put you or manga as a whole down.....but most people in my generation (i'm 19) may not know about manga....but they no about anime, due to the fact that everyone has seen either dragonball z, pokemon, or sailor moon as a kid, or atleast where i'm from (georgia), feel me?.....but at the end of the day, you just gotta say fuck it who cares, there's nothing wrong with me for liking manga, there must be something wrong with you for not......it's just like they say about the black sterotypes really,.....yeah i'm black and i love fried chicken, theres nothing wrong with that, they're must be something wrong with you for not.....feel me? it's just one of those things.....but yeah to sum it up, as long as you're comfortable with who you are and what you do, thats all that matters, feel me?

but one last thing....if you're one of those people who buy the naruto headbands to go with your matching orange jogging suit....LOL, please stop i'm usually all for my motto of "to each his own" but....seriously now, why do that to yourself, lol

in my case no one cares enought to hate it 😀 most think that the drawings are cute, and since i went to a school of 60% art freaks, some of them were into manga too, tho i only talked about this subject with one of them once.

basically they think all comics and cartoons are for children, and my mom hates it only bcuz im addicted ^_^;
