I just went in June/July and it was amazing! Truthfully, people are soooo much nicer there. A friend of mine left his wallet at a restuarant and the owner found it and ran like 3 blocks to return it to him. I would definetly trust them over the US Gov't.
A friend of my family's went to Japan on vacation and just to test the theory he left his brand new digital camera on a bench on purpose. Just like for your friend, they ran after him in order to give it back.
I've had my wallet returned to me quite a few times after leaving it somewhere accidentally. Maybe I just live in a good area.

That doesn't really happen much in the US. But I guess that it depends on the person who finds your wallet. I was right. Less crazies over there in Japan.
ares6 - I suppose we'll never know. But if what you say is true, then it really is a miracle.

I've been to Osaka and Kyoto... interesting places. Would have been better if i'd known Japanese.
Just for the record: the crime rates mentioned before were per 1000, so the size of the country doesn't really matter. Here wikipedia as a source. The homicide rate in Japan is ca. 10 times lower than in the US. And in the US it's increasing.

I was born in Japan and i was there again last year, just wondering why you started talking about the security lol? Look at america there are guns everywhere how many people get killen by a gun shot each year, the figures are skyhigh in Japan? 1-2 people? (should i even put plural on that lol). Drugs...lol does manga/anime count?
Personaly I don't think any country is similar to Japan cuz it's been like one of the most isolated countries in the world (it's an island ffs). Didn't like Akihabara that much...great arcades and stuff but it was too humid when i was there and a guy beat my ass in guilty gear (people just jump in and kick your ass from the other side...and then leave without saying a word) then i gradualy went north using shinkansen to study some shrines and visit family. There were alot of forests and mountains and beautiful gardens ..er..maybe I'm overdoing it...so to sum it up JAPAN is more awesome than anime and manga combined ..and games

Well, I still like America more. I personally think, over all, it's the country with the best living environment. God knows, in Japan, one day you're on the 6th floor, the next, you're on the 1st floor with Earth Quakes and Tidal waves and radiation from the last 2 A bomb......even though I like to visit Japan very much...

So now we wind up on Bush, eh? He won't be around much longer thanks to the two-term amendment. But who knows whether he's pulling the strings, most presidents will consult their party members or friends, etc.
Yes, I know that he has disagreed with his own party before.
