dont get me wrong, i love dat album, just disagree dat its the best, cuz of the contendors. tho not hardcore, a year b4 36 chambers, was mecca and soul brother
as for straight outta compton, i think it takes a million to hold us back is better. and overall, how bout follow the leader or paid in full.
Yes to Paid in Full. BDP>all other 80's rap imho. My favorite Hip Hop album is Resurrection though, with Midnight Marauders tying with Low End Theory and Black on Both Sides

Many of the suggestions in this thread are pretty sound.... (agree on ZepIII >Zep IV.... Beatles.... The Clash... Hendrix.... Kraftwerk).
The problem for me is there are so many genres of music I like, that it's almost impossible to create a small list.
So I'll suggest just one from more recent times.... in my opinion the "greatest album nobody heard" since the turn of the millennium.
It's Liquid Funk (a very chilled, acid, eclectic type of Drum n Bass).... easy to get into, and easy to love as long as you have some level of musical sensibility. Has a slightly soulful, funky, organic feel to it, IMHO.
Makoto - Human Elements

Here's a sample (most "mainstream" track on the album)
It's No Mystery (feat. Lori Fine)
I admit he's an acquaintance of mine, but I'm not trying to market the guy. I honestly think it's an awesome piece of work.
NOTE: Opinions reflect personal taste, so please refrain from dissing me if it ain't your cup-o-tea.

The Sword - Gods of the Earth
Exodus - The Atrocity Exhibition pt. 1
I've tried growing out of heavy metal. I just couldn't do it.

Buddy Guy - Man and the Blues
Buddy Guy+Junior Wells= The greatest thing in Chicago Blues. Ok, so maybe that's a hyperbole, but damn, that album wails.
Quote from Kilmore
The Sword - Gods of the Earth I liked Age of Winter better.
