My picks would be... (in no particular order)
- Cowboy Bebop
- Code Geass
- Berserk
- Full Metal Alchemist
- Basilisk
I wanna put GTO up there, but I just wish it was a lot more similar to the manga.
Naruto and Bleach would be up there... but I hate fillers, lol.

Final Fantasy advent Children is anime. Anime is just any form of animation from Japan. That includes CGI, claymation and stop-motion as well as the traditional hand drawn anime.

Its hard to believe some people had tengen toppa gurren lagaan as their top 5, I gave it a go, watched like 10 episodes or so to see why it was so great and failed to find anything to show me why it is soooo popular and highly rated
The reason why Gurren Lagann is so popular imo is because it has major character development. It is one of the best if not THE best in this field. But in order to see the changes in them you would have to finish the whole series. You could divide the series into two. The first half (16 eps i think) is basically preparing for the second half to go into epic mode XD. You've seen only 10 eps so maybe that's why...Then again, this is only IMO. To each his own i suppose.
Here's an example :
MAJOR SPOILER!!!
Simon- from a little crybaby > an arrogant hero who saved the world > GIIIIIIIGGGGGAAAA DRILLLLLLLLLL BRRRRRREEAKEEEER >an old man who looks up to the starry sky.
Code Geass
Gurren Lagann
Ergo Proxy
Tytania
Darker Than Black

😕 Gurren Lagann isn't that great in character developement. Simon has some shallow developement, Kamina has none at all, and same goes for Littner.
It does however, have pretty colours, a great soundtrack, humongous mecha, and an epic feeling that makes the viewer really excited and pumped up. That is why it's popular.
Series with character developement? No not really. Go watch Noein, Simoun, Princess Tutu, or Cowboy Bebop if you want that

Im looking for a anime with:
- At least a decent story, maybe a little drama
- some action, it can be light like cowboy bebob or a little more heavy like darker than black
- good soundtrack if possible, darker than black and champloo probably had some of my favorites
- has a realistic/mature feel to it, Im not saying that it has to be real, people can have powers and it can be taking place in a fantasy world, what im trying to say is people should be able to die with lost limbs (it doesnt have to be a gore fest like elfen lied or gantz) kinda of like how darker than black did it. mainly it just needs to be mature not with forced childish comic relief that isnt funny.
the anime doesnt have to be exactly like this list but similar
Series that fit your criteria will be marked with an asterisk (*)
- Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann *
- Ghost in the Shell - Stand Alone Complex * (1st and Second seasons as well as the film)
- Cowboy Bebop *
- Mushishi
- Honey and Clover
I already watched cowboy bebop, im not really a fan of meccha(robots), tengen was a no for me. i watched Baccano and it was really good probably one of the best dubz ive watched
