something with action, straight up romance is boring to me.
something where the relationship is extremely strained like character hates him/herself and everyone but other character wants them.
or something like a violent rebel falls for a well known advocate of his opposition but when they finally get together their beliefs are too strong for something to really work out
i wouldnt mind if the story was tragic in fact i think that would enhance the story greatly
i really enjoy seinen so excessive violence is fine but id like a deep plot if possible or at least a good one.
thanks for any suggestions.

Red eyes <-- prolly have some romance in it..
Zombie Hunter
Laughing Vampire
All the works by Itou Junji
Since you said you're gonna give 'romance' a try..I hope you dont mind me putting some shoujo-josei titles here..
Tragedy romance?
Fetish <-- highly recommended..err...XD
Present <-- Recomended
Hitsuji No Uta <-- very good josei romance
Vampire girl
Hakuji
Antique romance..prolly shud give it a try.
Godchild <-- 100% fit your criteria
Crimson Cross <-- has violence, vampire fights and brides. Ignore the stupid misleading 'shounen ai genre tag'.... there's no f*cking shounen ai there..

1001 Nights definitely fits the criteria of having violence+plot+romance and all these things that you mentioned..but it has some shounen-ai elements in it. BUT, if you want to read tales of legends...about cleopatra..turandot and any epic TRAGIC, bloody storytelling, I highly recommend you to read this. It's like a storybook..in Manwha version!

thanks for pointing out which are shonen ai and which really arent.
i usually avoid anything shonen ai because with my experience those stories focus entirely on well... men with men... its just not my thing.
i dont mind a mix of things like ... oh this is a poor example but "rules of attraction" a book by bret easton ellis had all sorts of strange relationships. like an openly gay man chasing a straight man who in turn is chasing a woman is after someone else... it continues in that kind of string.
i dont mind gay characters in a series but i'd rather it not be stressed, like a glimpse or a mention is fine with me. i apologize in advance if that angers anyone.
i did read shamo and berserk and they are notorious for their openings having one quick picture of male rape, which was one of the few things that bothered me. i felt berserk pulled off a tone with griffith quite well (spoilers ahead) when it revealed that at one point he was with an influential man and at no point did i have to see anything.
i want to say thanks for the many suggestions and in fact ive read one of them.
i laughed when i saw it again, zombie hunter. oh boy i wish that series didnt end so abruptly and so soon. i really enjoyed it.
i dont see shonen ai written on crimson cross.
i should say though that if male pda's are like a one time thing in a slice of life genre or similar it shouldnt be shonen-ai or for that matter vice versa something be shoujo ai, since homosexuality is a common thing now a days.
again thanks.
btw im look at descriptions now, fetish looks really good. red eyes looks promising too. I'm definitely checking out crimson cross and present sometime.
i want to say thanks to dreamit for the fushigi yugi suggestion too, i forgot about that series... but that was mostly because i couldnt find anywhere to download it.
and ive never heard of sanctuary, it seems like a good read. thanks.

ahemmm...
if you really like a manga that has some action and some romance... better checkout Superior!!!
its a really beautiful manga with action, comedy, fantasy and of course romance... i think theres also i bit of tragedy in it and drama because of the confusion of the main characters...
just give it a try and you wouldnt regret it!!! 😃 😃

Yeah, I second Superior!
I would also suggest:
Blood Alone
Koi Kaze (if you don't mind incest, but this isn't action)

Historie - Its really good. More Action/Stuffles then romance though. I mean, there was a love interest, but she and the main character went separate ways after about 10 chapters. Still, its great. =D
Parasyte - Decent amount of romance, I guess. 99999999% less the shojo, but whatever. Theres some, and plus they end up together. XD Anyway, its really good.
