Twilight is the reason why we have a low reading rate in America and why people fail at English. 🙂

Not entirely ture, reading anything always raises knowledge, no what it is that you read.
And frankly, I'm glad people are reading this rather than some other book with terrible writing AND stuff about drugs and sex and all that.

I've heard people say "well at least they're reading something," and that SM has inspired teens to read and write, but her books contain bad messages. Some I understand, while some people seem to pull these "messages" out of their ass. But they are definitely there.

But isn't that thing thing with books though?
You're never really suppose to understand the true meaning of a book. It defeats the purpose of personal opinion on a book.

Take the Lord of the Rings for example, everyone says it's about reilgion but the author says that he just wants to write s fun story.

If everyone sees a book the same way then, it take all the fun out of reading.

I don't think we're talking about the same messages. I'm talking about the more obvious ones, that deal with Bella being an obsessive unhealthy teenager, portraying Jacob as dirt-poor, having sex the first time = baby. Which the fact that Edward was infertile should make the possibilities a little lower. The list goes on and on, but I haven't read the books since Breaking Dawn. The messages are there, whether or not the author intended. I don't care, really, but a lot of other people do.

I consider the book (only read one) just above average, not horrid drivel or anything. It's basically for love sick teenage girls.

That being said, I've lost all respect for her as a writer with that interview. You don't declare yourself anything, leave that to others.

I've read the books. The story is quite good and interesting. But I just hate people thinking this is some kind of bible or something. Didn't see the videos because those saids are just dumb. If Shakespeare was alive nowadays his work will be different. Maybe nobody will read hes work. Maybe her work wouldn't be read in those times. Comparing with others authors it's just stupid.
People the same happened with "Da Vinci Code". All the people were outraged because of a book. Man that people looked like the Arabic fanatics that put bombs or the military that bombs little villages because they want cheaper oil.
The written word it's just that. Enjoy it, hate it, don't care about it, etc. It's your choice just remember not everybody has to think like you. For you might be a great thing and for me be just a bunch of rubbish.
We are all different, there's no need for all of us to think the same.

I think we are talking about different things.
I ONLY read the first one. It sucked, I didn't want to torture myself into reading the others so I didn't.

hi right im going ot be in the middle of this hate thing beauce ive read a few diffrent seriaes of fantasy novels including twilight, and yes i am a guy and i like it,
first things first as far as i could tell from reading hte books it was stated that "vampires" couldn't get pregnet no where that i read stated that humans couldn't get pregnet and as far as i read bella got pregnet when she was human.

second thing i would like to ask you lot have you ever tried writing a novel before or even short storys do you even reliease how much work goes into your favouirte books , and if sm did say that if her fans didn't like the ending then they should try to come up with a better one, i personaly would have said the exact same thing ,

give it a break would you, with all this its bad for you reading and that why lots of people fail english, give me a break in what world does reading fantasy novels make you bad at english, i have always read fantasy novels and im dyslexic and i enjoyed them alot more than the classic books, so now your going to say im dumb i dont think i am,
so i say lay off all this hatred and just enjoy the book for what it is a book a way to realse your self from the normal world

😐 The whole pregnant issue makes no sense. I get it to some extent but then no! In my perception, Bella is making love to a corpse! Isn't that what Edward is? He's "dead" so doesn't that fall under necrophilia. Also since vampires' bodies have stopped developing, how come Edward still is able to produce sperm? I doubt he had any left after what, almost 200 years of being a vampire. Bella got pregnant because she was human and can still develop through the stages of pregnancy but I still fail to see the light on the whole Edward able to produce more testosterone if his body can't develop anymore.
Another note about this whole sex + a few days = a CG talking baby I think is the Omen is just gross.

I beg to differ that she even worked hard on the ending. If she had maybe it wouldn't have sucked as much. I'm sure some people in these forums could write a better ending to this disgraceful series/trilogy. Not that they would 🙂 It was a cheesy and cliche ending. I wanted to see some action not desperate teens trying to get into each other's pants.

I read fantasy novels and there are unheard of authors out there that write better than Stephenie Meyer. Their stories are much better compared to Meyer's limited imagination. Dyslexia isn't a factor for considering reading Twilight. I never stated your dumb because you're not.
It's not hatred...ok it is. But when you hear fangirls at every corner of your school and non-stop talk about Edward or that Twilight is the best thing since sliced bread then yes you grow to detest the book. I have long ago released myself from a normal world and I read manga for that. 😀

I'll admit that I like Twilight, despite some ahem obvious issues.
And I hate Romeo and Juliet.
But unlike Shakespeare, Stephenie Meyer didn't pen half the words in the english language, nor does she write in meticulous and poetic iambic pentameter. We wouldn't have descriptives like "passion" if Shakes hadn't written them down.

Jane Austen practically created the female oriented romance genre. Enough said.

It's quite concieted to favourably compare aspects of your own work to any other author. Other than Robert Jordan, and teen girl fanfics written in flamingo pink font.

...Didn't she take some kind of English degree? How could she have gotten through that without some kind of respect for famous authors?

There is a very solid explanation for this. >:-( But I can't remember. I used to debate about this all the time and it was something that really agitated me, and I can't remember.... >:-(
Push the solid reasons that are definitely there aside, it makes no sense that female vampires can't get pregnant, while the males can still produce children. They're dead. No blood flows through their veins, they're cold as stone for crying out loud! The fact that Edward can even get it up is a mystery in and of itself. Having sex with him is like having sex with a popsicle. If he fed beforehand, it could be explained, but the author being who she is, there's no way she'd go so far into it.

Anyway. There is a HUGE-HUGE plot hole concerning this and it's obvious to just about everyone that's read the books and actually look deeper into it.

Stephanie Meyer makes me CRY. 😢

I don't just mean her as a person, I mean her writing.

No offense to the Twilight fans, but... No. Just, no.

I can't understand how you think when you say that the whole thing about Twilight is too extreme, when the hate towards it is more extreme. -_-

True, very true. And I know I'm going to sound like a real b*tch here, but I can't help but thinking SM deserves the hate. Not only can she not think of a decent plot or characters, but she can neither spell properly and her writing style completely sucks. In fact, she somewhat reminds me of Mr Collins from 'Pride and Prejudice' and his writing style (you'll get what I mean if you read the book ;P).

Take everything I say in this post with a grain of salt because I actually haven't read the books or seen the movies.

Thing with Twilight is that it's written towards one small target audience, just a very vocal one. And everyone outside of that audience is going to hate it. It's Meyer's and her fanbase's fantasy. Let them enjoy it. And let's let us hate it away from them.

If she actually writes like Mr. Collins, then I laugh. (And yes, I've read Price and Prejudice, and a few of Shakespeare's plays.) And I can hardly believe that someone could write English better than Shakespeare. Even in all the classics I've read, no one has ever been quite so clever with words. If she thinks that what she's written herself is greater than Shakespeare, so be it. Let her think she's great and let the majority think that she's foolish. You're not going to change someone arrogant enough to think themselves greater than Shakespeare by yapping here.
