Influencing others (family?) to read Manga? Triumph or tragedy?

My brother was curious after reading twenty of my One Piece volumes, so I gave him a bunch of Death Note chapters, but he lost interest. Well, I don't see it as a particular loss, since I don't care if he reads manga or not.
Haven't tried influencing others since then. I have experienced that most people around me are prejudiced about manga and anime. So I just. Shut. Up. 😐 I just want to have my hobby in peace without people meddling and giving negative comments.

My first manga was Doaemon which was given by my father to encourage me to read more.
Then after e few years later, my older brother start collecting Dragon Ball. That manga really got me hooked. Since then I'm addicted to manga until now.
My older brother not addicted to manga anymore and he always says I'm too old for manga and I should stop reading them. 🙁
My younger brother and sister also read some manga based on my commendation. My sister more into shoujo & comedy. While my brother like shounen. So, I will recommend based on their taste. 😁

It was most definently a tragedy. My mother very much despises it, which makes it hard to request them when we go to shops to buy new reading materials. Though, I've succeeded with some friends, which made it more fun to read manga, so when you pass it on to borrow or as gift, you can talk about your liking of the manga, what you think about that art storyline, and settings. Its good and bad both ways.
tragedy. non of my family can read english, but currently showing my 4 year old cousin, but she's too young for it, i can't say she understand most of it.
my cousins, they're a lost cause so. -_-''

triumph!~!
but my cousin is not into it anymore well she used to be.. and she finished mangas wayyyyy faster than me but lately she has been real busy ya know.. so anyway.. but i also got some of my friends into anime! so manga naturally follows!! now that we are all apart.. manga and anime is like our glue that will keep us together.. 😀

i have tainted many since i read and watch many genre's so it is simple enough to figure out what people would like. though, i would have to say many more think it is retarded to read manga or watch anime, but, whatever.

I tried to get my best female friend to read manga. She liked it but she lacks the will needed to pursue the hobby on her own if you know what I mean. I showed her 2 completely different mangas. The first was Kimi no Iru Machi, since it's a romantic comedy it's something accessible and the sort of fast pace and twists of the story makes it a very easy and fast read. I read with her till around chap 6 and then told her to continue on her own. She only got to chapter 30 something as far as I know. Then the second one was Hoshi no Samidare, which is one of my all time favorites. I read the first 2 chaps with her but then, even though she liked it, she didn't continue.
This sort of drove me to a conclusion. If people have the will power and time to dedicate to manga everyone may enjoy it, because the types of stories are so many and so different that they manage to satisfy any taste. But the thing that the person needs is will power to continue on her own. If the person doesn't have that, it's worthless. I gave up on trying to get her addicted.
