Anyway, you're more likely to get your hair terribly damaged.

Most likely because the author couldn't think of anything, and calling the manga ichigo was gay, since ichigo means strawberry, maybe he was washing his clothes and randomly saw a bottle of bleach, and bingo 😁

a little interview from Shounen Jump, regarding why Tite chose Bleach as the title;

">SJ: Why did you pick Bleach as the title?

Kubo-sensei: The title wasn't Bleach when I decided to draw a story about Soul Reapers. (Shinigami) This was before I drew the one-shot manga that appeared in Akamaru Jump. The weapon wasn't a sword, but a scythe. Only Rukia had a scythe and the other characters used guns. At that point, the title was >Snipe [as in "sniper"]. Right before I started drawing, I began to think that a sword would be better and realized I couldn't use Snipe as a title anymore. I began looking for a title that grasped the bigger picture. Soul Reapers (Shinigami) are associated with the color black, but it would have been boring to use "black." "White," on the other hand, can suggest black as a complementary color. So I chose "bleach" to evoke the impression of the color white.
[Kubo-sensei explained to us how he chose English chapter titles for the manga. He uses a dictionary to look up words that match his idea for the title, and often replaces a word with one that has a similar meaning but sounds better. Kubo-sensei didn't use a dictionary to choose "bleach" because the English word is already commonly used in Japan.]"

so basically, Shinigamis are associated with the colour black, tite thought it'd be boring to point that straight out and went with the opposite, white, which, in his head is a representative to the word "Bleach".

kinda makes sense with Kubo's style of "Engrish".

Shinigami = Bleach

Bleach can clean up a mess, but if you put too much of it on your clothes it will destroy the fabric. The Gotei 13 are all about keeping a balance. They don't want to kill all Hollows nor do they want to let them run free and do as they please.

Cuz Kubo Tite's assistant who hated him gave him bleach instead of his normal coffee while Kubo was trying to come up with a name for the manga and Kubo was all like "Omfg tyvm I think I just had an epiphany. I'll name the manga Bleach." And they all lived happily ever after. THE END.

i would have thought it because ichigos hair looked bleached, and was often teased about it. but that reason sounds alot more thought out and deep XD
