Actually Shounen ai is more like a term developed by fans for less explicit content. Just like Shoujo ai. The actual term to begin with was just Yaoi and Yuri, but now it is it's own genre (in a way) thus related. At least it's more related to that then action, no? ... Sigh the world needs more Yuri...

Haha. I'm not a yaoi fan..but they are related. Shonen ai is now called boys love. And the Gakuen heaven anime is rated 13+, while the manga is 18+.

So don't flip out..

Yup. Years ago when there are still no scanlations, I often read fanfiction where I encounter Yaoi and Yuri. Shounen Ai and Shoujo Ai came when the genres became popular but some audience doesn't really prefer explicit content.

Anyway, as for Gakuen Heaven and Okane ga Nai, I haven't watched the anime but the manga, I would definitely considered Yaoi.

disgusting is relative. You need to accept people who enjoy this kind of thing.

Edit: I enjoy yuri (not shojo-ai), I think lesbians are hot, personally don't like yaoi, but.... well yea it's all personal taste. Nothing is truly disgusting.

I just get annoyed when people who know nothing of shounen-ai and yaoi make claims of certain series.

Example: I had a friend who was disgusted that I read Loveless, stating that I was reading "yaoi." Since the series is in no way yaoi, I tried to inform him that it was shounen-ai, which is not nearly as graphic. Unfortunately, he's extremely stubborn and close-minded, so he didn't believe me when I told him that shounen-ai and yaoi were two completely different things until another person backed me up. It was ridiculous.

This might be slightly off-topic, but does anyone else get annoyed when people badmouth yaoi when they themselves are avid yuri readers or vice-versa? It seems a bit hypocritical to me... Like, I don't blame them for not liking the other "side of the spectrum," but I expect them to keep that opinion to themselves and not judge people who DO like yaoi/yuri.

I agree, the only thing i have issues with are with older guy and younger guy (shonen-ai, any yaoi would definetly be classified as child pornography)... I could never understand why people enjoy that

...I'd like to start a rant on how this isn't even close to child pornography, but I know it won't end well. So just to put points across:

1. "Older guy" and "younger guy" doesn't necessarily mean pedophilia.
2. These are drawings.
3. These are drawings that don't even remotely look like real children.
4. I am not a pedophile for reading shounen-ai between 2 boys aged 13.
5. Neither for shota.

You don't have to like it, but don't make the people who like it into criminals.

I saw we should criminalize the mangaka who shamelessly oversexualize younger kids (aka kodomo no jikan). 😁

Im sorry I didn't mean shonen-ai, I realize that's not pedophilia, I was talking about YAOI with older guy and younger boy. Sorry for poor misleading grammar.
