Do you know how to use IRC

I know how to use IRC.
That said, there's a firewall and a router I have to go through to get to the internet, and I lack access to the router--I have to go through my dad--and all told, it simply isn't worth the effort to get the right ports open and properly on my machine.

A few years ago, before the birth of megaupload and hosting sites, the only way to get manga was through IRC, so I was forced to learn it. I'm kinda surprised at how many people think it's hard to use. I think maybe they're just intimidated because it looks complicated; but when you actually read a tutorial, you'll see that it isn't really as hard as you think it is. You just browse at a packlist to see what you like, type a set code, and you get your manga.

I know how to use IRC but I really dislike it, it's a very inconvinient way of DLing for me.
I use it almost everyday, I think I sorta know how to use it.
i know how to use it, but i don´t use it because i´m using a proxy to share internet to my comp and i couldn´t make IRC work.

Exactly the same here -but I have no idea how to use it-, only I have some really weird router that gets pissed off at random times. And direct downloads is better for really lazy people like me 😛
Also, I never really liked IRC in general...the asl pls thing got on my nerves really bad...

Theoretically I know HOW, but I've never used it before.
I'm too lazy to download it, you see.
I'll just stick to downloading and using Hosting sites.

I hate IRC. WIth a burning passion. It's so difficult to get in on a conversation if you're new to it, and the majority of channels I've been to are either completely dead, or there'll be two or three people chatting the hell out of the place and not letting anyone get a word in edgewise. On that note, it always seems as though if there's any talking going on at all, there are, like, three or four conversations going on at once and it's sooo hard to follow.

Have been using it for a couple of years. I'm fairly computer literate, but it took me some time to get used to it. Granted, there are many commands to use, i barely know probably 10 of them. That's all i need to get my files. To me, it's pretty useful because being on campus, bitorrent does not always work, so irc is one of the best and fastest way to get my stuff. For manga, my preferred downloading method is still hosting sites (mediafire, sendspace) because there are free for everyone!

It took me a few hours to get used to it, but once I did, I never looked back on direct download and bittorrent. I find it superior to those two methods and better if you're attempting to download many files at once or files that are simply too big otherwise and require a high speed server, else it take forever to download.
I simply prefer IRC, but I can see how it can be a hassle to use in some cases.

I feel like an idiot for asking this... but what's IRC? I get all of my manga online (mostly hosting sites, but sometimes I download it from the scanlation site).
