Braces..?

Regular braces don't hurt your teeth very much, however, be prepared for a few months of bleeding, cut lips and then later on, calloused lips.
This isn't necessarily true, though - my boys haven't had ANY trouble with sores or cuts inside their mouths (except when they've gotten bumped in the face, of course).
There are at least two different systems of braces, probably many more.
The ones my boys have, they lay a wire across the brackets and then put on little rubber-bandy-things to hold the wire in place. There are no sharp corners or pointy edges at all; it certainly felt weird to them until they got used to it but wasn't painful.
The ones one of my boys' friends have, each bracket has a little "latch" that opens, then they lay the wire across, then close the latch. He had horrible problems with sores in his mouth, at least at first.
One of my boys had headgear for a while, hated it, but I made him wear it diligently and it wasn't too long before they said he didn't need to wear it anymore.
Now both boys just have little rubber bands that hook on to various teeth, which they also hate. 🙄

I think the pain depends on how your teeth are arranged and why you needed the braces in the first place.
Is it because there are too much space inbetween the teeth or do you need more space? If it's the former than it'll hurt after you first get them and then it'll continue to hurt when you get them tightened.
I was the latter so I guess I didn't have to endure the pain for long since there's no need for tightening.
I got braces at the end of grade 7 to mid grade 10. The first week is the worst, it's almost impossible to chew and it hurts like hell, it sucked more for me cause when I went to school the next day I got hit in the face with a basketball in gym class, not fun. Anyway, after the first week it's not too bad, you don't really notice it till you start getting food stuck in there, cuts in your mouth (i hated those) and if your braces break (mine broke all the time cause I kept eating stuff I wasn't supposed to, my orthodontists told me I had a reputation for breaking my braces a lot in their office. And when you start getting them tightened, they're sore for like a day and then it's all good. Anyway, braces shouldn't bother you too much once you get used to it, but I had more than enough time to get used to it (over 2 1/2 years) and now I'm supposed to wear a retainer (not that I do).

Never had them, glad I never did. Retainers when I was seven years old were bad enough. Plus, braces would screw up my flute playing so I would never want them. I saw my friend go through it, I don't really want the same.

I broke mine all the time too!
Erm, yea... they didn't really hurt, so it didn't affect what I ate. Or maybe I'm slightly masochistic. I dunno. They weren't that bad, nothing to be scared of.

Ah Braces, how I hated them. For me, it's not the braces themselves that hurt (though it took a while it order to eat solid food), but the crap they did to my teeth so I could get braces which was a pain the @$$. They took out 8 of my teeth so they can stick some wires on my teeth for 2 years 🤢 I couldn't eat solid food for about three weeks, since they took 4 teeth out one week, my wisdom teeth the following week, and put the damn braces on. Then after it's all done they tell me I have to wear retainers for 6 years 🤢 . All to get my teeth aligned 1mm. Waste of time and money.

So, I had braces from the ninth grade to the eleventh grade. Let's just say that the first month of having them felt so weird and kept scratching my inner lips. A year later, I was told that I had to put on rubber bands, and I HATED that so much. Then, in the month they were removed, my teeth felt slippery against my inner lips.
But, the result is great! Your teeth look phenomonal and you look great when you smile in pictures! Also a word of advice, please, please wear your retainer, and follow your orthodondist's directions regarding them. I have a friend who had stopped wearing her retainer for three weeks, and when she put them on, her gums bled. 🤢

I was wondering if anyone had/has braces. If so, did it hurt when you got them? Are there any side effects? I was just wondering, since I'm going to get braces soon, and I'm wondering if they might affect me in any way.. 😲
First week, pain in hell. Depends on you but I'm sure that in that first week your going to feel your teeth being pressured like no other. 2nd week, little better bout 30% better than the pain it was before.
After your first re-wiring (when you get it changed) it feels like week one again. For two days you feel pain on the 3rd maybe not. Your first re-wiring is like first week, you pretty much can't eat solids.
There we have it.
Yes, I won't lie to you;
They hurt.
Like hell.
The first week is the worst. Headaches as you get used to the pressure of the brace on your teeth. Then after that, it's fine. Your teeth will feel a bit sensitive. Oh and your mouth will be very sore as your gums rub against the brace. Also, when they tighten it, 'tis not nice either.
I'm not making you feel good am I? 🤣 Nah don't worry, the pain is very much worth it, and will go away as you get used to them. Before you know it, your going to think you had braces on all the times. And don't listen 100% when they say your going to have them in for 2 years. That's what my dentist said, and I got them out after 6 months 😮
The straight teeth you get at the end is worth it. Make sure you keep them that way as well by wearing the retainers! The last thing you want is going through all of that and going back to wonky because your lazy with the retainers. I still wear mine when I go to bed 🤣
