Braces..?

I was wondering if anyone had/has braces. If so, did it hurt when you got them? Are there any side effects? I was just wondering, since I'm going to get braces soon, and I'm wondering if they might affect me in any way.. 😲

I just got braces a little over a month ago. They do not hurt when you get them. But they may rub against and irritate the inside of your cheeks. You will get wax from your orthodonist to put on that. You may not want to eat once you get them and it will feel a little weird at first but you get use to it! ^_^

Okay thanks 😀 . I hope I take care of them, so I won't have to wear them for TOO long 😢

they can hurt, and bad if you ask me, specially when they rub against your gums!!! Gah. Personally I don think that the wax helps, it didn't for me. And putting the wax in my mouth was kinda gross to me, is all slimy.
But I had a cross bite and a under bite, so I had a lot I work done on my teeth. I even had this thing that went on the roof of your mouth and it had to get tightened every other week or so. (I think that had to do with the cross bite).
But, yeah it will hurt for a little while, but really after a couple of days you'll get used to it. 🙂
hehe the real pain is getting them off! }: )

Both my kids have braces (have had them for about 13 months) and they do complain of their teeth & jaws aching after they get new wires on. The first time was the worst, because their teeth had a lot of moving to do, but now it's usually not a problem.
They have had zero problems with the braces irritating the inside of their mouths, but their friend whose braces are a different "system" had a horrible time at first (though I think it's a lot better now).

I have them for about a year and a half now.
Getting them off in September~ <3
As for your questions, yes it did hurt after I first got them; I had to eat tofu for a week. xD And I wasn't even able to eat pizza properly for a while but with time, you'll get use to it and it's like it's not even there at all! But be sure to clean your teeth well to avoid cavities. (;

It's because of the strain it does to your teeth in motion. But don't worry, just eat soft foods for about a week and it'll be gone in no time. But if it hurts your gums then like what the above posts said ^ use wax. I don't think it'll hurt that much, then again...I'm a masochist. 😲

I hope waxing works for me ^^, but I'm not really sure that I can live with soft foods for a week.. 😢

Taking ibuprofen helps with aching teeth/jaws, too. Check with the orthodontist first, but it should be fine to take some ibuprofen before the appointment when you have the braces put on, so by the time you (may) start to hurt, it'll already be taking effect.
I think a lot depends on exactly what's being done with your teeth, and what system of brackets etc. your orthodontist uses, but for my boys it really hasn't been bad.

Hehe. I remember these things. I had mine on for 3 and a half years. From the end of 7th grade to the beginning of 11th. And they sucked. Had the wire in the roof of my mouth. Told my I would hafta wear the head gear but thankfully that didn't happen. Take some advil or something b 4 u go to help with the soreness after they finish putting them on.

don't have braces, will not get them, already have straight teeth 😀
but my sister does and so does a lot of my friends. They say it hurts at first and you'll have to eat soft foods for the first 1-2 weeks to get used to it.

That was the WORST.
I had my braces on for 4 years, although luckily I only had the thing in the roof of my mouth for about 8 months. That thing REALLY hurts when its tightened, so be wary.
Regular braces don't hurt your teeth very much, however, be prepared for a few months of bleeding, cut lips and then later on, calloused lips. (Good thing about this though, is now when I bite my lip on accident, it doesn't bleed because there are callouses there. XD)
The soft foods for a week generally isn't true; I only had to eat them for 4 days. XD
